I'm getting a little concerned. My daughter can sit for a few seconds on her own but then topples forward or to the side or back. She just turned 8 months yesterday. Should I be concerned?
My 5 1/2 month old can sit unassisted up to 10 minutes, also my friend DS can sit fully and he's 7 months. Personally i would contact your Pedi, I'm sure they are not ready yet or just taking it slow, but just to be safe I would call.
Allison has been sitting since 6 months, but Vanessa just started to sit without toppling over within seconds this past week. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm sure it's fine. My niece did it after 8 months. She hit all her gross motor skills on the later end but was always ahead with fine motor skills and verbal skills.
DS1 was sitting 'unattended' at 6 months, but didn't crawl till 9mo. DS2 can sit (sometimes for 10 seconds, sometimes for 10 minutes) but I'd never leave him unattended but he can crawl.
Also, for whatever reason both of my boys went from sucking at sitting up to be able to do it practically overnight. It was shocking to me both times.
Thank you for all the posts. Well within a few days of writing this my daughter is now sitting on her own. Looks like this first time mom was just worried! So happy:)

This is also really good advice!
