Patrick William or William Patrick?

We are deciding between two names for our son...Patrick William and William Patrick. Patrick is my husband's name and William is my father's name, who passed away so we definitely want to use it as a first or middle name. I have always loved the name Patrick but we don't really like any nicknames for it so they would both be Patrick. I also love William for a first name and we would eventually call him Will. My brother and Dad both go by Bill and Billy so we would choose Will. Which do you prefer?

    Definitely William Patrick. I don't like any of the nn for Patrick at all.

    I really like William Patrick,and as long as your husband doesn't mind his name being your son's middle name, it would also get rid of any confusion later one. We have 2 Adam's in our family, it can get really confusing!!!

    I also would choose William Patrick.  Not only for the nn but I think it flows better.

    agreed. i like Will better than the other nn for William. Also, I think it would be confusing having 2 Patricks if you aren't using nn for Patrick. You would end up with a "little Patrick" or end up with a nn anyway even if you don't want one.

    I love William Patrick. You could call him Willy P... that was the name of my hedge hog. But really... I do like the name William Patrick. If it wasnt my father in laws (William) or my brother in laws (Patrick) name I think they would be in the running.

    I like William Patrick better! Although, I have to admit that my first thought was that it's a lot like "Neil Patrick" as in Neil Patrick Harris, aka. Doogie Howser/Barney!

    I agree with PPs, I don't like any of the NNs for Patrick.  Since your DH is Patrick, people are sure to use NNs for DS to differentiate between DH & DS.  William Patrick seems like the way to go.  Plus, Will is a great NN.
