Well, that sucks

DH just texted me that he will be in Canada for work Dec. 22-Jan. 6 this year. 

He started this new job this summer and they had told him they are off work every year between the holidays. 

This sucks.

    What...? Does his job normally involve that much time away from home? That's absolutely crazy about the holiday thing- is he in a field of work that doesn't close for holidays?

    Even if we go with him, it still sucks.  Christmas in a hotel room?  Yuck.

    My mom is going to be devastated.  If we aren't there, she will be all alone with my stepfather.

    Not usually.  He was gone last week for four days and that was unusual. 

    In the past, before we were married, he would travel a LOT.  He would be gone for months.  He's switched jobs just to get away from that. 

    He does work in an industry where they need to work when the auto plants are closed, so Christmas has been affected at times, but never like this.  This was just something they specifically talked about during the interview process and now they have done a 180 on the whole thing.  I am hoping they'll change their mind, but he said it's doubtful.

    Wow, I'm sorry. I don't get upset by things like that usually. I'm used to being away from DH for "important" things, but I would be really sad to be away from him on Christmas.

    That sucks! A friend of mine DH is a pilot and is never home for the holidays. What they do is celebrate a week early. The decorations are up, family comes over for dinner, santa arrives, etc. Their kids are little and have no idea about it not being Dec. 25th. It works out great. Why not do something like that?

    That's a good idea.  If we don't go with him, we'll do that instead probably.

    Of course not!  That would make it bearable, so of course it's not Windsor!

    That would make me so sad. I hope things change in the next few months. It sucks that they promised him the holiday off and didn't deliver.
