Baby Showers

Food Suggestions Please

I'm throwing a "shower" for a co-worker soon.  Our showers at work are very small/informal but I'm close to this co-worker so I wanted to make it a little nice.  I sent an email invitation to the entire department (which is standard around here) and have booked a conference room for 2 hours (1 hour for the actual party).  The theme is "little pumpkin" and I am doing 2 "games."  (Games are not usually done, but I wanted to do it).

The first game is to guess how many candy corn are in a jar.  The closest guess wins the jar.  The second game is to guess how many diapers are in a large clear container.  The MTB keeps the diapers and the winner gets another jar of candy.

I am decorting the room with orange/yellow/and brown streamers and table cloth.  I ordered a cake (with a cute little pumpkin on it) and am providing the following "munchies":

apple juice, sodas, cut up apples with caramel dipping sauce, kettle corn, veggie tray, chips and dip.  What other "fall food" suggestions can you offer?  Some other memebers of my team at work are offering to bring food.  I'm thinking a pumpkin or apple bread might be nice but I can't think of anything else "fall themed".  TIA!

Re: Food Suggestions Please

  • Is it just snack food?  If so, it sounds like you have a nice assortment of stuff.  Pumpkin and apple bread would be delish.   If this is around lunch time, a nice hearty soup and salad would go well.

  • If it's possible to heat up food, how about something warm like Spinach Dip in a bread bowl or mac and cheese it little cups?  Maybe little mini quiches?  HTH.  Cute theme!
  • If you want something hot...how about warm apple cider (maybe instead of apple juice)?  It keeps hot for a long time in one of those pump thermoses.  Pumpkin seeds is another non-sweet option.  I did just get a recipe from a coworker...you mix 2 bags of Brachs candycorn with 1 jar of dry roasted peanuts.  If you eat them together it tastes just like a PayDay candy bar (but of course that is something sweet yet again).  lol
  • I think your ideas sound good!  But I just wanted to throw this out there: a lot of people hate candy corn (my DH really can't stand the stuff).  So unless you know the people in your office like it you may want to consider another option, maybe M&Ms?

ETA: spelling/typo- I guess my brain wasn't fully functioning.

  • I love the pumpkin seeds idea!

Oh- I never thought of people's distaste for candy corn.  Uh oh!  I'll have to run out and get an alternative candy prize =)

    Thanks for the suggestions ladies!

  • You can get fall cookie cutters & make sugar cookies. I know I have some in the shapes of leaves & pumpkins that I think I got at Walmart. That's the only other food I can think of.

I love your theme idea! I can tell you've put a lot of thought into it & I'm sure the mom-to-be will love it!
