How are you celebrating Halloween with your LO? And, how did you celebrate Halloween with your LO when s/he was less than a year old (like, more along 7 months old)? Did you take your LO trick or treating?
I'm trying to decide what to do. LO will be 7 months old when Halloween comes around. Of course I want her to wear a cute little costume, but I thought maybe dress her up & take her out on the porch with us to give out candy. DH wants to take her on our block (they would each wear costumes that went together) & trick or treating would be involved. He thinks it would be cute. I think, meh, he's asking for candy for himself. And he doesn't eat candy, which I pointed out. "We would give the candy to you." Yeah, but I'd rather buy my own candy so I get what I want.
Ah, I don't know. Part of me thinks it's so cute that he's so excited about walking her for Halloween (MH really LOVES Halloween). I don't know why I care so much about whether or not he walks around a kid who can't eat the candy. Yeah I do--because I would totally side-eye those people when they came to my door.
Sorry. Thinking out loud.

Our town has a parade for Halloween and I think it would be cute for them to walk in that. If she wore a costume & sat on the porch with us to give out candy, I"m good with that. Walking the block, but not going door to door, I would be ok with.
Ok, so like I thought it would be weird if they went door to door.
Thanks!
I sort of hesitated even buying DS a costume, because I thought, "Who is even going to see it?" We really don't get trick-or-treaters...we had no kids last year and maybe 8 kids the year before. And as you said, it's not like I can go around knocking on doors to ask for candy for myself...too bad! Ha!
But it's DS' first Halloween, so I did buy a costume and I think we will head over to MIL's house so the family can oooh and aaah over DS in his costume and take tons of pictures. She might get more kids knocking on the door over there, so maybe it will be a chance for DS to check everything out while dressed up.
I love when the neighbor babies stop by on Halloween. They are all so cute in their costumes. We all sit on our steps and hand out candy, so there is no door knocking involved.
Last year we handed out candy early (5-6:30) and then headed to a friend's house. Along the way we talked to people who were on their steps and many of them insisted on giving us candy for the baby. We joined my friend and her kids on their trick-o-treat run, and then we went home.
Charlie was just one week old for his first Halloween, so we stuck him in a polar bear bunting that someone gave us. I think that was the only time we used the thing, since we had a really mild winter and the thing was made for blizzards! But it was super cute.
Last year I got him a giraffe outfit from BRU and his BFF Elena came over in her pink poodle outfit and we handed out the candy to the hoards of little monsters in our neighborhood.
This year, he's got a hand-me-down monkey outfit from one of the neighbors. Not sure if we'll just do the stay-at-home thing again or actually trot him around a little bit to our friends in the neighborhood.
Thanks ladies!
Oh yes, the first Halloween costume. MH has ideas, but of course my mom & my sister (LO's aunt/godmother) have their ideas, too. I know my mom & sister are excited since LO is the only granddaughter & niece on my side of the family. They're excited just to be able to buy girl stuff, lol.

DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
DD1 was four months old for her first Halloween. SIL bought her an adorable bumble bee costume (one piece like an enhanced vest with a velcro closure). We dressed her up and took her to visit a few local friends & family.
This year I am hoping we will get together with our two and the new nephew for some costume photos. We may take the girls to visit a few friends and DH may take DD1 just around our little court, but that is it.
We've always dress the kids up and taken them out. Halloween is huge here, so is trick or treating. Last year S was 1 week old and we dressed her as a lady bug (it was a sleeper and matching hat). DH took her to some of our closer neighbors to meet her, and he got candy. The neighbors were excited to see her, and DH ate the candy! They knew, they said hey, the sugar will keep you awake!
The girls are all going out again this year, S is going too. She's wearing K's flower costume and she'll hang in the stroller. We'll probably give most of her candy to her brother, since he's too old to go out.
I grew up with the rule, no Trick or Treat until you can say 75% of the time "Trick or Treat" and "thank you."
Last year Michael was 5 months and was a pumpkin, This year we will dress him up as something (DH is leaning towards a garden gnome) and he will help hand out candy.
It's really funny about this Halloween (Aaron's 3rd, though he's only 2) because I've been in the industry (company that sells costumes and accessories to stores/online retailers) for 8 years now--more if you consider it's a family business that's been around for over 25 years.
But I'm disenchanted by it all. Our business is not doing well and I don't feel like going crazy this year with Halloween decoration, etc. Especially with it being on a Monday.
That being said, Aaron is really into his "choo choo hat" (a denim striped hat from Osh Kosh) so I bought the matching overalls and will put him in a white shirt and a red bandana and he'll be a train engineer / conductor / whatever. Plus he'll be happy. He loves that hat.
