Triplet Moms- a few questions!

I'm 19 weeks along and being hopeful trying to figure out maternity leave and plan for help with my 20 month old daughter (as much as you can plan anything in these cases).

Were most of you on bedrest? When did you stop working and when did you deliver? I have a desk job and a short commute but definitely don't want to overdo it. Working from home would be an option for me too.

Also wondering when I might start needing help picking up my daughter from daycare and getting her dinner and in bed (DH works late most nights).

Basically when did you feel like you needed to slow down? I know this differs for everyone but would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks so much for any input!

Re: Triplet Moms- a few questions!

  • Well, if you haven't slowed down now, you are in good shape.  My entire pregnancy was debilitating from the get-go.  By 19 weeks, I couldn't even go grocery shopping with DH.  I was never on "bed rest" but went on medical leave from work at 24 weeks.  I was very slowed down at that point.

     I delivered at 35 weeks, 6 days.

  • I don't know what's wrong with me.  I can't remember exactly when I stopped working....around 22-23 weeks.  There wasn't really anything wrong aside from some irritable uterus and exhaustion, my doctors just liked for their patients to take it easy.  I remained on "house arrest" until my scheduled c-section at 35w6d.  I was never on full bedrest.

  • I am still pregnant with my trio but I am 26 weeks and still doing everything. I don't work I stay home with 2 1/2 year old and things are getting harder but I do it all. My dr told me last week to start taking easy but I feel fine and my cervix is just starting to change. My DH is gone a lot ( he is military) and I have done it all alone. I do think it is very diffrerent person to person. And like I said mine ate still cooking and no idea when will come. I hope things stay calm for you.

  • I was never officially put on bedrest. My MFM told me to be a couch potato and just take it easy, but I pretty much put myself on modified bedrest at around 25 weeks (when my cervix started shortening). I worked until 16 weeks, only because I was a teacher and it was summer break; I could have probably continued working a bit longer, but was glad I didn't have to. By about 28 weeks dh was doing just about everything for me (we had some other family help as well). At around 32 weeks I got a wheelchair to get out and get around because it was difficult for me to be couped up in the house all the time.
Congratulations!!! I hope you have a long and boring rest of your pregnancy :)

  • I am still pregnant with my trio.  I stopped working in my office at 16 weeks and worked at home until 22 weeks and 1 day when I was admitted to the hospital for bedrest for the duration.  I will be 30 weeks tomorrow and we are just blessed for everyday that we have not had our trio.

     Good luck to you!

  •    I worked until 31 weeks but I started working from home full time around 25 weeks and I have a desk job. It was nice to work from home because I could lay down in the afternoons for a while if I needed to rest.

I went in for a check up at 31 weeks and ended up in the hospital for a week for pre-term labor issues, then home for bedrest until I delivered at 35 weeks 4 days.  Those last weeks were hard but I was pretty good up until the hospital stay.  I felt pretty good (but tired) up until the hospital stay

  • I worked in the office until 28 weeks (full time) and did part time (a couple of days a week in the office, the rest of the time at home) until 32 weeks, when I was admitted for pre-e.

  • Congrats! I am still pg but can answer some of the questions. I worked full time until 29 weeks and then went out on STD. The last 3 weeks of that my boss let me work half the day at home which was helpful. I was never on strict bed rest until last week when I was admitted to the hospital for mild pre e and more monitoring. I got released last night though. Even in the hospital my dr let me walk the l&d floor some. Now I'm home on bed rest. I can still drive myself to my dr appointments, get up to shower and make food. My DH has been doing all the grocery shopping, stuff around the house since about 25 weeks or so. We do not have any other kids at home. Good luck with your pregnancy and keep us updated!

  • still prego here but I can answer some of the questions too.  Stopped wroking at 32 weeks (teaching) MFM said I could work longer if I wanted but I had, had enough.  I don't have any help with my daughter my husband also works a lot at least during the day she's still at daycare.  Nights are rough he tries to get home earlier a few nights a week since I can't bathe her anymore.  I pretty much sit on the couch all day unless I have to drive to a dr's. appointment,  I've been shopping on-line its too hard to get around.  Right now the swelling in my legs is the worst, can't sleep at night for more then 1/2 hour and heartburn has been getting worse.  Al least my c-cestion is going to be at 35 weeks!  Can't wait!

Oh I make food and shower during the day but Dh is responsible for all other housework-hense our house looking like it should be on an episode of hoarders!

I was perfectly fine until I went into PTL at 29 weeks exactly. From there I was on modified hospital bedrest for 4 weeks for iritable uterus and pre-e. Delivered at 33w1day after going into labor. I worked from the hospital (only 10-12 hours a week), but it was more than possible. I can't imagine having to walk or do much physical activity for my job though.

Also wondering when I might start needing help picking up my daughter from daycare and getting her dinner and in bed (DH works late most nights).

I had a 3 year old at the time. Picking him up (literally) became impossible early on, but I continued taking him to/from preschool until the day I went to the hospital.

I started slowing down around 20-21 weeks. By 32 weeks when they allowed me to walk around the hospital I couldn't believe how slowly I was moving, and after a short walk I would be sore for hours.
