I just witnessed a surprise marriage proposal :)

A co-worker and I went to grab a bite to eat for lunch and I just witnessed the sweetest thing! This soldier walked in (obviously fresh from a deployment) and surprised his girlfriend (our waitress). I'm not sure how long he was gone but she was shocked and crying. Everyone was clapping, what an awesome moment for her. She couldn't stand any longer and flopped down at the booth next to us. THEN he got down on his knee and proposed to her. OMG it was amazingly sweet. He started crying and I think at that point most people in the restaurant were too! These were complete strangers but I wish them the best! I just wanted to share:)

Did any of you ladies have a romantic or memorable proposal? DH tried to be romantic in his proposal, but was so nervous he couldn't get anything else out but "will you". He proposed at our favorite restaurant and had one of the waitresses put the ring down in front of me. Honestly, I was hungry and remember thinking "come on I want my food not a present" then 2 miliseconds later it dawned on me. Then I had no appetite. After I said yes he said "Thank God that's over with, and I'm still in one peice". We had discussed not getting married until I was out of Grad school, but he decided that he would do it early:)

Re: I just witnessed a surprise marriage proposal :)

  • Awwwe what a sweet thing to witness!

DH proposed when we were in Paris. I love it there, I studied French in HS and college and did a semester there.  I kind of thought he might do it then, like at the Eiffel Tower or something, so we went to see it the first night, and I was waiting on edge for him to do it. Every time he bent down to tie his shoe I was like "OMG THIS IS IT!" Nope!  I was so heartbroken, thinking I got my hopes up etc.

But since he loves to keep me in suspense, he ended up doing it 5 days (!!) into our trip, while we were out walking at night, on some random Parisian side street under a street light. He knelt right into a puddle :-)

  • DH proposed on my favorite beach on New year's eve, it was perfect.

When I went on a girl's trip to NYC with MIL and SILs, we saw a guy propose on the Rocketfeller rink (don't know the real name). Right when we got there, they were just finishing cleaning the ice and then all the lights dimmer and the "your song" (the one from moulin rouge") came on and the guy walked on the rink in a tux with a dozen roses. The rink people escorted the girl back onto the ice and she was sobbing- it was adorbale.

  • That is such a sweet story!

DH proposed in Ocean City, MD on the beach.  Every time we visit my family in DE we go out to dinner and to the boardwalk in OC.  So we walked the boardwalk and decided to walk back to our car on the beach.  DH kept giving me these awkward 1 armed hugs.  Come to find out he had the ring safety pinned in his pocket and he couldn't get the safety pin closed after he released the ring, lol!  Anyway, we stopped and hugged for a minute and he finally got down on 1 knee, said a bunch of stuff neither one of us remember, and asked me to marry him!  I said  yes and dropped down on my knees to hug and kiss him.  It was simply perfect.

  • That is so awesome!

DH proposed at Niagara Falls. I was really peeved at him at the time because he was being a jerk all day while we were sightseeing, and then barely spoke to me during dinner. Poor guy was horribly nervous! We sat down to watch the fireworks, and he surprised me with the ring. I got over being mad at him very quickly.

  • Very cute story.  I love reading everyone's proposal stories.  DH took me out to dinner at a nice restaurant just outside State College, PA (we were both seniors at PSU).  It ended up being on a Thurs. night because he had to quick change our date plans since he had to host a potential lacrosse player for the weekend (he played lax at PSU and was so mad about this inconvenience since he had planned to do it on Sat.).  I didn't suspect it because I thought we were just going out for a random midweek date (albeit at a nice restaurant so I was a little suspicious).  We had a nice meal and he didn't do it then so I thought nothing was up, but then we walked out to the gazebo that we had first told each other we loved each other.  He got down on one knee and proposed there.  It is sort of a blur, but there were tears. We drove back to his apartment and he had all of his roommates and mine waiting with champagne and we had a little party.  It was awesome. I remember going to class the next morning and looking at the ring on the finger in disbelief.  Looking back were were very young, but I wouldn't change a thing.
  • That is a sweet story.  DH didn't do anything fancy. He proposed to me at his apt in St Louis after I had just flown in.  It was 9 am and we had hot dogs and champagne right after since I was starving since my flight was at 6 am.
  • What a great story!

DH proposed to me on Catalina Island. We were there for a weekend trip and had just rented bikes to ride around. We stopped at a spot called Lover's Cove (and no, he hadn't known about it...just worked out that way!) and sat to look at the ocean. A few minutes later he just said "I love you. Will you marry me?" I was so shocked and my first response was "Are you serious?" Luckily he was! He then got on his knee in front of me and said he never wanted to say those words to anyone else in his life, and wanted me to be his wife. We were both crying and it was perfect.  He was actually shaking trying to get the ring box out of his backpack it was cute.

  • oh my gosh, that is the cutest thing ever!

DH was very romantic... but in a way that was so over the top I totally knew it was coming. We went to Niagara on the Lake and stayed in a B&B. From the get go I was suspicious that he'd be popping the question while we were there. We got home from dinner and our room was decked out in roses, candles, chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. We got in the room and DH had to go back down to the car to get the ring because he had it hidden and forgot to grab it before we went in since he was sooo nervous. So I sat there on the bed basically knowing he was about to propose. It was so sweet though! ;)

I once witnessed a marriage proposal, but it was cheesy and at The Olive Garden. The couple looked like they were about 15 years old too.

  • DH proposed on a cruise to the Caribbean, the first night.  I knew that it was coming at some point around then...unfortunately my BFF dropped too many hints, even knowing that I like surprises :(.....  It was still very sweet.  I had no idea about what the ring was going to be and it was (is) perfect.

I do not think that I have ever witnessed one that was really memorable...

  • LOVE the stories ladies!!!  Don't you wish you could re-live that moment?  All of the butterflies and emotions.  I'm so totally happy where I am in life right now, but sometimes I miss the suspense and that overwhelming "OH my God, this is IT" feeling.

DH proposed to me on a wine tour.  We had talked about getting married and toyed with the idea of having the reception at a winery so we went to check out a few wineries to get ideas for what we would want when the time came... plus we just love wine tours, so it seemed like a good, logical reasons to hit up the Finger Lakes.  Little did I know that time was coming sooner than I thought.  We stopped at Miles Winery on Seneca Lake (LOVE their Wisteria wine... definitely one of my favs).  Instead of doing a tasting, we decided to just grab a glass and hang out by the lake on their picnic tables.  I was pretty happy to just relax for a few, but he took for-freaking ever to find Bugles (those chips things) in the back seat.  (I had no idea he was digging the ring out form his hiding spot).

So we took our glasses down to the little cliff at the edge of the property (one of the most beautiful spots on Seneca Lake) and just stared out at the water for a few.  He ask "Do you know how much I love you?"  And I expected one of his typical silly "to the moon" kind of answers.  I said "How much" and he said "This much"... when I turned to look at him, he was not there... not at eye level at least.  He was down on one knee with the ring.  I couldn't believe it.  I think I uttered some nonsense "Are you serious?  Is this really happening"... it was so perfect!  Perfect proposal for us winos.

Never really witnessed  a super romantic proposal.  I have seen a few at restaurants... not my idea of romance, IMHO.  I also watched a guy propose on a cruise ship.  It was sweet... and they got tons of pictures.  Definitely a plus.

  • Love reading the stories!

On the day of our proposal, we had DH's Xmas party for work around 6pm. He had gone to the casino in NF that day with friends and told me he'd be home in time for the party, etc.  Well at one point he called and said they were stuck in traffic and he'd be home later than he thought-which kind of irked me since I didn't want to be late for his party. We go to the party and on the way home we decided to make a fire in our fireplace and just relax. I'm the type of girl who stays in whatever I'm wearing until I go to bed-he's the opposite-as soon as he walks in the door he gets his comfy clothes on. Well that night I was sick of being dressed up and headed upstairs to get on my PJs and he sort of got mad at me ("come relax and sit by the fire, etc). I of course just went up and got changed so then he got changed as well. So we're both in our comfy clothes sitting by the fire and he goes "do you know why I was late getting home today?" and I said "yeah, the traffic" and he goes "no, I went to see your parents in Buffalo". My heart dropped and I immediately felt that nauseous feeling. He goes "I asked them if it was ok to marry you".  I was like "shut up, no way" and as I'm saying this he gets on his knee and proposed. I just kept saying "shut up" over and over and crying!! Little did I know he wanted us to be all dressed up for the proposal and the one night I want to get in my jammies, I ruin that idea!  Oh, and apparently he had the ring on him throughout the entire party! It was at a country club and he was hoping to find the perfect spot to do it there and just couldnt find anything suitable!

  • Awww!  I've got tears in my eyes just reading that!

  • Love the stories!

DH had it all planned out to propose over the weekend while we were with friends, but he's so impatient that he came home from working the night shift and woke me up to propose to me at like 5am.  It was so cute because it's so him!  He can't keep secrets at all.

  • I love proposal stories. DH proposed at Disneyland. These Disney workers came up to us and said we were winners of their Year of a Million Dreams campaign. We got to go to the front of the line on any ride and VIP seating for fireworks. After we got off the ride, they said the castle was still roped off and we could go take pics if we wanted. Disney photographers were taking our pics and he got down on one knee in front of the whole crowd waiting for the parade. Turns out, he had called Disney and set everything up from what time we were meeting the workers to our "prize." We love Disney so it was the perfect place. We also were able to get a pic of him on his knee which rarely happens.
