Trying to Get Pregnant

I need everyones help that is new to a doctor...

I recently moved to a new city after getting married.  My husband and I have been just 'trying' for fun but this last month I stepped it up checking things.  This cycle and my last cycle have been really long 50 and now 35 days and I am going to a new doctor for the first time tomorrow to get checked out and talk about what I need to do to better my chances.  This question is, what do I need to ask her, or should I just sit and listen.  I am a bigger girl yes, my family has a history of having a cyst every now and then and my last cycle I had to take that medicine to help jump start my periord again.  So after reading this what would you ask or say to a new doctor.  Any and all imput would be really helpful.

PS I am a huge stalker to this site, you ladies are really empowering & I love reading your trials, tribulations and success stories.

  • Welcome! I think you should tell the new doc everything you wrote here. They'll ask about your family history, they'll check weight, etc. After that, share your cycle information and tell them about your TTC plans and recent experiences with meds. Hopefully they'll have questions for you, as well, to help guide the discussion.

    Good luck to you!

  • I would go over your cycle history.  Let the doctor know your cycles run long/irregular.  If you've been "trying" for a while let the doctor know how many cycles.  I would spend some time talking about your options with an irregular cycle.

Also discuss the doctor's personal opinions on anything that may be a concern to you: natural/epidural? how long TTC before she will step in?  Is she partnered with other doctors?

  • Oh, and to answer your question (which I should have done in the first place), I would give her all of the information that you have. She'll ask you a lot about your cycles and periods, so try to take all of that information with you. If you are charting (which it doesn't sound like you are, but..) I would take all of your charts with you.

A 50 day cycle, when it is not a repeating pattern, can be pretty normal. 35 days falls very close to the range of normal. I would suggest charting to determine your ovulatory pattern.
