Ridgeview Medical Center- Waconia Hospital

Ladies, so I am trying to decide which is the better option for delivery.... My Dr. delivers at both Fairview Southdale or Ridgeview in Waconia. I haven't heard the best reviews about Southdale so I wanted to know if any of you have delivered at Waconia or what you have heard about experience there. I have a few more weeks to decide but want to verify my first thought. Thanks for the help!!

    I delivered DS at Waconia in 12/09 and will deliver DD there in Nov. I had a great experience. The staff is very nice, helpful. Rooms are beautiful. Not sure what Southdale's set up is, but at Ridgeview you deliver in one room and then move to a different room after delivery. I also liked that the hospital isn't as big as some of the other area ones. Do you have time or want to tour both before you make a decision?

    I just delivered at Ridgeview in April.(as well as in Mar 07).  the new birthing center is really nice!  Each labor room has a huge tub for laboring in along with the shower.  The post partum rooms are really nice with a couch, fridge, chair and nice bathroom shower.  My SIL delivered a Fairview a month or so after me and I couldn't believe how dated and small the rooms seemed.

    Also, I had really good access to nurses and the lactation consultant.  It almost seemed like no one else we there though I know that to be incorrect.

    I delivered at Fairview Southdale and had a good experience. The rooms are small but the nurses were good. I would deliver there again.

    Does your dr have an opinion?

    Is one closer than the other?

    I would probably try to tour both and look at your options. Good luck!

    Hi Ashscoop-  I have delivered twice at Ridgeview medical center and have had a wonderful experience both times.  With my first (born 12/2009) I saw the midwives at Western Obgyn and planned on a waterbirth at the hospital.  Even though I wasnt able to go ahead with my waterbirth plans (ended up with an unplanned c-section), it was a great experience.  I delivered there for a second time few weeks ago with my son.  This time I saw both the midwives and Dr. Cheryl Hansen at Western Obgyn.  I started seeing the doctor as well because I wanted to try a VBAC.  All the nurses present on the day my son was born were wonderful support (I think this really helped with having a successful VBAC).  I would highly recommend Dr. Hansen as well.  The facilities are awesome.  The delivery rooms as well as the rooms you stay in are  very spacious, clean and comfortable.  If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a msg!
