Shoes for daycare

What is everyone buying these days? What do you spend? I don't mind spending money, but every three months is killing me for $35. Do you buy a bit bigger to keep LO in them longer (so instead of going from 3 to 3 1/2 going to a 4)? I feel guilty not getting 'the best' but don't want to spend foolishly. I also know a good pair of shoes is priceless, esp for new walkers.

We got some at the StrideRite outlet and they suggested buying a size larger than their feet are so they have room to grow.
I never pay over $15-$20 for a pair of shoes, they just grow out of them too fast. My DD is almost three & I can send her to MIL's for a weekend & I swear she comes back and we have to graduate her into the next size up. We usually buy at Shoe Carnival or Payless.
I shop the sales + coupon on Stride Rite shoes. Sign up online or in store if you haven't already. I spend about $20 per pair. DS has two pairs of shoes total, so I don't feel like it's a waste of money. They last until he grows out of them. I have bought cheap shoes from payless/target, but they are still about $12 and they fall apart before he has grown out of them.
Stride Rite recommends buying a little bigger so they have room to grow.
I will admit that we paid $40 for a pair of sneakers last Friday from Stride Rite. I think they'll last for a few months, and we'll try to get our money's worth out of them.
We'll be headed to the Stride Rite outlet at some point to look at bigger shoes for cheaper. I hear they're half the price of the regular store! I want my kid's feet to be ok. My mom always skimped on shoes, which sucked for my feet.
ETA: We just bought DD's first real shoes on Friday, size 5. She figured out walking a month ago, but wouldn't do it in public. Now she does, and needs good shoes.
i buy stride rites for daycare. i figure, they are in their shoes ALL DAY long, from 7:15am until 4:45pm, so i want them to have comfortable, supportive shoes.
i can usually find stride rites on sale or at the outlet for $40 or less. based upon the stride rite employees' recommendations, i buy 1/2 to 1 size up, they last for several months.
for cheapy shoes for weekend running around, i go to target, kohls, etc (except for DS, who wears a wide, he always has to wear stride rite).
I buy shoes from Target or Payless (fwiw, payless has the cheaper version made by Stride Rite).
My DD barely wears her shoes at daycare, they take them off at the door so I'm not going to pay a lot for shoes that sit at the door.
I'm sticking with StrideRite for now. I don't want to skimp out on shoes that LO will be in all day every day. I just bought a pair yesterday on Hautelook for $30 shipped. I will probably buy a bit bigger each time she needs a new pair.
Another Stride Rite buyer here. We're lucky that we have an outlet not too far away, so I think I got his last two pairs in late April for less than $50 total. We bought a 1/2 size up and they've lasted from late April until now. He's just getting to the point where he could use some new ones soon for size and also change of season. The beauty is that with little boy #2 is on the way, we'll be able to reuse those shoes because they have held up so beautifully...my child is a dirt-wallower and his shoes still look almost new. I only buy a couple of pairs of shoes that he wears frequently, so I don't mind spending a little more to get the longevity and quality.
As for whenever they need dress shoes for special occasions, I will totally go as cheap as possible on those.
I guess I'm the odd woman out, but I just bought shoes from Target when DS was smaller. Our pedi said the important thing for the new walkers is that the shoes are flexible, so I just looked for that and had good luck finding them at Target.
I still buy him some shoes from Target, but the last few pairs have worn out quickly now that he is not growing out of them so fast, so I may try a little better quality now. Of course, his beatup Target pair are his favorite so he never wants to wear the nicer pair I just bought!
My ds destroys his daycare shoes. They get dirty fast. It doesn't matter what color I get. So I buy cheap shoes from target/walmart/kmart. I have to look around for what fits his flinstone foot. He has no issues with the cheap ones hurting his foot. He is 4.5 and would tell me in a minute. I have bought nike/stride rite/new balance and they don't hold up to the wear and tear of daycare any better than the cheap ones.
His weekend/church shoes I will spend a little more. I only shop stride rite on the clearance rack or if I happen by an outlet.
