I experienced my first migraine last night and I pray that I never go through it again. I had felt really good all day...like no sickness, alot of energy and then I got home and right away threw up (and unfortunately...peed my pants...this has happened twice so far while throwing up but it's at least been at home, phew!). So then Jeff got home and I told him I felt really sick and we sat down to watch the sing off and eat and I couldn't see half of the tv, it was a ring of bright flashing lights with an empty gray center. I thought maybe I broke a blood vessel in my eye or something when I got sick. I told Jeff and was sorta freaking out a bit, then I went to get on FB on my phone and I was a toddler all over again, I couldnt' read!!!! I couldn't make out any of the words...no comprehension what so ever. Then the headache started to set in and I tried to just close my eyes...Jeff held up 4 fingers and asked me how many he was holding up and I blurted out "4:40"..WHAT?! Then I kept forgetting his name and kept calling him "mom". I finally went into my room and went to bed with an ice pack on my neck and it kept happening again...I'd go to call for him and "mom" would come out of my mouth! It was some of the worst pain and bizarre behavior i've ever dealt with! Today i'm feeling better...I can see and I know my husbands name right off the bat, but i'm exhausted! I went to the nurse at my school and spilled the beans that we're pregnant (DH and i work at the same school) and the nurses told me to call my dr this morning and she took my blood pressure, which she said was high, and my HR and it was 82 the first time, over 100 the second time, and then after I sat there for a few minutes down to 72. So they said to definitely call my dr. I am terrified for this to happen again. ![]()
Re: Horrible & scary night last night...
That does sound like a blood pressure issue more than a real migraine to me! Definitely get in to see the doctor, because high BP can be a real concern while pregnant, but can be well managed with a doctors care.
A migraine has very similar symptoms, but not as much the behavior side. The vision, hearing, nausea is all normal for a migraine, but the behavior is scary and would indicate more of an issue to me. I have had migraines since puberty (and my mother has had them all her life too)
I hope you start feeling better and get some answers soon.
This....I have migraines too, the vision thing, hearing (my ears ring badly) and headache, normal but not being able to call him by name is really weird...and with your pulse going up and down like that. You DEFINITELY need to call your Dr ASAP and talk to them! High BP can be controlled if that is the issue, just need to catch it now!
I agree with this.
I get migraines as well. The physical things you are describing seem the same, but I've never had any confusion or behavioral changes.
First off, I am so sorry and hope you are ok. Secondly, I am not trying to scare you, but what you have described are symptoms of a mini-stroke (TIA) or stroke.

I think you should call your Dr. back and book an appt to get fully checked out. This is not something you want to mess with.
As PP said, I have had a few migraines in my time. I experienced the nausea, vomiting, headache and aura, but had zero confusion or speech problems. Pls get checked out ASAP. Better to be safe than sorry, right?
My friend has had migraines that involved confusion and no pain. One morning she woke up and couldn't read the ticker on the news. She knew they were letters and words, but she had no idea what they said. Another morning she woke up totally confused about what day it was and if she was supposed to go to school. The doctors ran all sorts of neurological tests and finally diagnosed her with migraines.
I agree with the others about getting more testing done. It could be migraines, but it could be something worse. Better to rule stuff out than overlook it.
Definitely get checked out if this is not a normal migraine for you. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are having a stroke or TIA though.
I also have migraines with aura, but mine are also accompanied by numbness on one side (literally split my body down the middle) and sometimes trouble speaking. I know what I want to say, but getting the correct words out and in the correct order doesn't always seem to work. My neurologist has compared them to mini TIA's, but they're still just migraines.
Hope you feel better!! Migraines suck, especially when you can't take anything but Tylenol.
