TTC After a Loss

Sonohystogram

Hey ladies, have any of you had a sonohystogram?  My doctor would like me to have this procedure and I'm just wondering what your experiences were like.  TIA for all of your feedback:)

Re: Sonohystogram

  • I had one before I got pregnant with DD1.  It was painful for about 5 minutes because one of my tubes was blocked, but I was able to go back to work after.  At the time, I worked at the hospital that the procedure was done at so I just went right back to my office, so recovery time was minimal.  I did take some Tylenol before the procedure and after I felt fine.  My H and I resumed having sex not that day but the day after.  My report came back having an abnormal shaped uterus (which my RE already knew because I had a few fibroids removed and that was consistent with abdominal surgery).  I actually got pregnant that cycle of the HSG with DD1, it apparently unblocked my tubes.  Oh the other thing is I ovulated really early that cycle (I think 10 or 11), the test can sometimes throw your cycle off.  All in all, it wasn't that bad.  GL!  Let me know if you have any other questions, hopefully we can help!

  • ack... I have had both (one for the fibroids, the other for the blocked tube).  I am getting them mixed up, it was over 2 years ago.  Sorry for the confusion, but what Petra said sounds right on!  :)

  • Good luck, I have one next month. I've had an HSG that wasn't a big deal, so im hoping this wont be either.

  • I had one last year.  Definitely take some pain meds.  When the saline was filling my uterus I was in a lot of pain.  It was one constant and extremely painful cramp.  The pain will vary for everyone.

  • Thank you all soooo much for your feedback.  I'm a little nervous for the procedure but it'll all be worth it in the end.  Thanks again!
  • my SHG didnt hurt at all. just slight cramping when the saline went in but nothing even remotely painful. I did take a 800mg ibuprofen before. The entire thing took less than 10 minutes and wasn't bad at all. I barely noticed it and then she said she was done and I was shocked that it was so easy
