Anyone have any reviews/experience with the NC center for reproductive medicine in Cary?  (NCCRM) I have an appointment with Dr. Toma, a RE, and wanted to see if anyone knew of him?

Re: NC Center for Reproductive Medicine

  • Hi,

I work in the field...I was going to go to NCCRM but was advised not to after I already had an appointment set up.  I went to Carolina Conceptions instead and met with Dr. Meyer.  They were awesome!  I had a lot of tests done there but didn't get spend much time as I got pregnant on my first cycle of femara and now have a beautiful 2 month old.  Wishing you the best of luck.

  • I went to UNC and ended up switching to Duke. I have been much happier with the RE at Duke (Dr. Price). They did tests that UNC did not do, and found a nodule on my thyroid, which led to a thryoid biopsy. It ended up just being a cyst, but still, I was impressed that my RE at Duke found it, when the RE at UNC never even palpated my thyroid.

I haven't been to CC or NCCRM, so I can't comment on them.

  • Also went to Carolina Conceptions and I thought their staff were great. We went in after trying for about 2.5 years on our own with no luck and I had a history of annovulation.  But I found out a week after our consultation and initial blood work that I was 5 weeks pregnant.  But I did think that the drs. were great and I was very comfortable starting treatment there.

I agree about Duke and Dr. Price.  I highly recommend them to anyone.

  • A friend of mine saw Dr. Toma about 8 years ago and loved him.  Here twin girls are almost 7.  Because of her recommendations, if I lived in the Triangle he would have been my first stop when we started trying a couple years after her.  Good luck!

  • I go to Carolina Conceptions.  I see Dr. Park.  I like him a lot.  I've actually seen all the 3 doctors.  I'm not a fan of the female doc, but both the men are great.  I'm obviously still not pregnant, but not for their lack of trying.  I go back Monday and will soon be starting our third and final cycle of fertility treatments with them.  Their hours suck though.  One of the girls at the front desk is a witch, other than that I have no issues.  I don't know anything about NCCRM though.

I bet I know who you are talking about!  She was rude to me on the phone one day.  I asked her what her name was, she stated "Michelle, but there is more than one here"  Basically saying if I was going to complain they wouldn't know which Michelle I was talking about.

  • Like ECU and Veronica, I go to Duke Fertility Center. They have been wonderful throughout TTC#1 and #2 and the multiple m/c's I've recently had. They also can do nearly all surgical procedures in office which is a huge plus. All their staff is wonderful. Out of the many years we've been with them, I've only had one bad experience but it was a fellow (and they come and go). I see Dr Copeland and I highly recommend her.

I do have a friend who used NCCRM and loved them. Helped her conceive 2 children!

  • Thanks so much everyone!  I did my first round of IVF through ECU, becuase I live in Greenville, and they were horrible!  Hoping NCCRM will be better.

ECU - that's interesting about UNC.  I have 5 friends who got 2nd opinions at UNC after being at duke (and not happy with them) and liked UNC better.  One of them was even a duke physician herself!

I bet some of it is just the power a 2nd opinion. A new doctor is going to see things that the first didn't, and may run additional tests, etc.

For bedside manner, I would say UNC all the way. Dr. Price is not warm and fuzzy at all. But, he has called me, unpromted on a Saturday morning and talked to me for 20 minutes to go over things with me. Same thing happened after my thyroid biopsy - I already had the results, but he called me, on his own, just to talk over everything again. I dont know about the other doctors at Duke, but Dr. Price just seems to be very thorough and methodical, which I really respect.
