I am 10 weeks PG , and am beginning the search for doulas in my area. Does anyone out there have a favorite? Recommendation? What did you like about her? How did she help during labor and birth ( what kind of birth did you have?) ? Where was she located? What were her rates and fees? Any info would be helpful right now. Thanks!!

Re: Reccomend a Portland Area Doula?
My doula was Joan Bryant, she's awesome. She teaches the birth classes at Kaiser Sunnyside, and my DH and I really liked her, so we hired her. I ended up having an emergency c-section about an hour after I got to the hospital, so didn't need a doula. She came over to my house and did some post-partum helping, which was fabulous. She really helped me get comfortable with nursing, and just generally helped with dishes, cooking, laundry, etc when my DH was back at work and I was still recovering from my surgery.
The biggest thing for me, was I really didn't want to be induced, and I felt that she was very supportive of me during the 2 weeks after my due date.

I did a LOT of research and profiles. I loved Melissa Haskins, www.renchildbirth.com
I connected with her, liked her philosophy and her interest on my desires and birh plan. I recommend you call her and meet with her, that is the best way to help you decide.
Good luck!
Yes, meeting a doula is important! I just posted info above about mine. Pre-natal: We met several times, she attended 2 of my prenatal visits. Post-natal - she came by twice and talked on the phone a million times. She was $500 and recommended by Mother Tree.
