Do you take your diaper bag to the hospital?

I'm not sure if you're supposed to take your diaper bag with you or not to the hopsital? I assume they have everything there that you need but just wondering what everyone's thoughts are??? PS - I'm in Canada so not sure if there's a difference in the US or not. [Poll]

You might want to check with someone from your area. In the US no its not necessary because the hospital supplies you with everything including another diaper bag.

We're taking it, but not including diaper supplies since the hospital will have that for us. I'm just using it as the bag to put the girls' coming home outfits and blankets in.

I am in the US but I did not bring mine. The hospital had everything and then I put the extra's in my bag.

No. There's nothing you would need to bring that the hospital doesn't supply for the short time you'll be there, and it will just be more luggage to carry in.

I don't plan on taking it, I packed my hospital bag this weekend and all his stuff fit in my bag, so I didn't feel like I should bring another bag.

I only packed him some gowns, caps, a specific onesie (photo op) and the blanket that my DH's grandma crocheted for him when he was a baby and came home from the hospital in.

FWIW, my BFF is in Ottawa and just had her LO two weeks ago, she didn't take her diaper bag and here was her advice she e-mailed me this weekend:

Blankets: we didn't use our own at all just the hospital ones

Sleepers: it was nice not to have to use the weird little nighties they have that tie in back. Those are not cute.

Hats and mitts. He always had a hat on at the hospital. We got one from the hospital when he came out.

Diapers. We used only the hospital ones.

This! I am not taking diapers, wipes or anything like that. Just clothes, a cute blanket for pics and the baby book for footprints. Maybe a pacifier too.

My hospital had an orientation that provided us with details on these kinds of issues. We were told not to bother bringing a diaper bag because they will have the things baby and I need. They did suggest bringing our own wipes and baby powder though. For whatever reason they don't think those items are needed. I have tossed those two items in my hospital bag. Hope that helps.

I wouldn't take it. Last time I did and it was a complete waste. I didn't need anything in it and it was just more stuff in our room taking up space and more stuff to carry down to the car and unload. I would just put any baby stuff you think you might need in your hospital bag and call it a day.

I only brought my bag. The hospital provided everything the baby needed and pretty much everything I needed. Just make sure you have room in your bag to take everything that isn't nailed down home with you:)

This. I'm in Calgary and my OB nurse said to bring a diaper bag as the hospital only supplies a few diapers... probably depends on the hospital?

I have a diaper bag packed with outfits and whatnot. We will swipe diapers from the hospital on the way out, but the hospital wipes suck, so I threw a pack in the bag. Also, I want the diaper bag in case we make a stop or two on the way home from the hospital.

I'm taking LO's diaper bag as her luggage bag. I'm using one of our smaller pieces for myself and her stuff won't fit too. Our hospital (in US) does have on hand baby shampoo, diapers, wipes, onesies, shirts and receiving blankets. But it's "customary" here for people to bring their own things for baby. They don't just bring a supply of this stuff to your room. You have to ask for it as you need it and wait on them to bring it. I would feel strange not bringing clothes for my kid to wear.

CHeck with your hospital and see what they supply and what you need to bring. Your hospital will give you better advice than we will. For what it's worth, I DID bring mine last time but, I didn't need to. I will do the same thing this time. It was a convenient way to pack the things the baby would need to come home and then that was the bag with a lot of extra space left over to bring home stuff we had accumulated.

The very convenient part of doing that way was the diaper bag didn't come in from the car until we were getting ready to leave. It really cut down on the amount of crap we had to keep track of the whole time.

I brought one last and this time we are not. It's not really something you need.pet hospitals provide what you need during your stay. The hospital we are staying at this time actually provides diaper bags. So we are not buying one.
