I watched a 20/20 re-run on TLC tonight about two American dads who had to fight for custody of their sons who were in orphanages in Italy. I don't know anyone IRL who has been through a worse situation than my DH, but their stories certainly put things into perspective. As much as we complain about the court systems here, it could be worse. I can't find the episode online, but here are the links to their stories.

Re: 20/20 Custody Cases
I saw this!!!! It's amazing how backward Italy is/has become. I was absolutely floored and disgusted that they would rather put kids in an orphanage, than give them to their fathers - who WANTED THEM. I can also see this as a big FU from Italy towards the US. I see they're doing the same thing in the Amanda Knox case.
One more thing - the guy who did get his son back is amazing. For him to rise above what his ex-fiance did to him and their child, and let her start seeing her son is true forgiveness.
