Pregnant after IF

Rh Negative Ladies

I'm just curious if any of you whose blood type is Rh negative have had any special instructions from your doctor.  Obviously, the Rhogam shot is coming for me in a few months (I know my husband's blood type and he's +), and again after delivery, but other than that, I was wondering if your doctors have told you anything else specific.  My doctor told me at my very last appointment (12 weeks) that if I have any spotting at any time, to call immediately to get the shot right away...  I didn't actually know that before, even although I've always known that I was Rh negative, so I'm glad to have that info now.

I work in the healthcare industry, in a job that has caused me to be very "aware" of blood typing/ screening, so I'm not overly concerned about this extra factor in my pregnancy, considering all of the medical advances in this area in the last 50 years -- but I just want to be cautious.  Ensuring everything "blood-related" goes smoothly in this pregnancy (my first) will make all the difference for the next (hopefully) one...!

  • I was told from my RE to watch for any spotting so I could get the shot immediately since we knew DH is RH+. Otherwise I just got it at 28w and will again after delivery unless her blood type comes back RH- like me.

  • The only instruction I was given was if i bleed at any time to go to the ER and get the rhogam shot. Since that has not happened, if I make it without bleeding to 28w then I will get the shot. DH is O+ and I'm O-

  • Hopping over from SAIF. My blood type is A- and we never found out my DH's blood type. We had a bleeding scare at 10 weeks and I had to have the Rhogam shot right away. Then I had it in the second trimester and once again after my c-section. Other than that, no other instructions. Turns out both of our LO's are A- too, just like Mommy! Good luck!

  • I will ask for it at my appt tomorrow. My German OB is very chill about it. I have had spitting my whole pregnancy and two different doctors have never mentioned it being an issue, which concerns me since I know DH is Rh pos.

  • I am A- and DH is O+ I got the rhogram shot at 28wks and after delivery because LO is A+, and after each of my losses as well. I had no spotting but was never told of getting a shot if I did spot either
  • I was never told anything about a shot with spotting (and even had a spotting/leading episode in the first tri with this pregnancy). Just the rhogram shots. I am O-, DH is O+, DD is O+.

  • Nothing special other than getting the rhogam shot. The doc told me that when I have the baby they'll test the baby's blood type to determine if I need another one.

    Best of luck!
