Stay at Home Moms

Who's dh works ALOT!?!

I guess this is a vent although day to day, I'm not consumed just sort of sad.  My dh works long hours - usually 12 hr days and sometimes doesn't see the boys for a couple days in a row 'cause they're sleeping when he leaves and sleeping when he returns home.  At this point, there's nothing he can do to change this short of finding a new job and so...

...he misses seeing his babies and I end up relaying all these great stories about what they've done during the day.

I just WISH he worked a 9-5...okay, vent over.

Re: Who's dh works ALOT!?!

  • I hear you. My husband dairy farms with his dad. dh is out the door at 6 and returns at 8:30pm. when it is not planting, harvest or calf season he gets an hour lunch at home with us. I do chores on the farm three times a week just to see him more. i also bought our son's ear muff protectors so they can ride in the tractor with him.

i don't complain too much because he loves what he does and someone has to feed the world. :)

  • My DH is supposed  to have the typical 8-5 hours.  He gets so busy at work that he works late and sometimes goes in early.  He has days (like today) that he doesn't see DS at all.  I am very thankful that he has a good job that allows me to SAH, but I wish that my son could see his dad more and I wish that I would get a break during the day!  It can get really frustrating!
  •  i just noticed that we are all from MN. is this a trend?
  • I'm in MN, too! lol

When DH was in grad school, there was a full 4 months where my husband would leave Monday mornings and my kids would see him for dinner Wednesday night... then dinner the next two nights, that's it.

It was awful!  Basically 4 straight days of me alone without support.  While I kept wondering, "how do single moms do it???" I realize they actually work, which is its own exhaustion but DIFFERENT exhaustion from taking cares of kids full time.  Not saying one is better than the other, but basically I can't fathom anyone having kids on purpose without being married, and I can see how vulnerable women are to date guys and shack up to just have adult support!

  • I just noticed that too, that we are all from MN.

And speeking of, I just got off the phone with DH (who is STILL at work!), and since he didn't get everything done tonight that he needed, he will have to go in early tomorrow (he said around 6am!).....It makes me so sad when DS doesn't get to see DH, all I hear all day long is 'dada, dada, dada, dada'.

  • hey i'd be happy if mine would get to come home every night. right now he works for FedEx driving over the road.  he is gone for 5 to 7 days at a time and is only home for maybe 2.  its rough.
  • and ok...is there something wrong with our state or something? i mean,  why are we all from MN and our husbands never home?! lol
  • Ahhh...the minnesota work ethic...
  • Well, I'm from AR, but my dh is a police officer and he works the night shift. He works 12 hours 4 days a week...so when he's not working, he's sleeping. It's like he doesn't even exsist. Plus, I have to deal with dd wanting to wake him up and play all day. She stands outside the bedroom door and cries! It's sad...

  • During the last 2-4 months of every film, I rarely see my DH because he is working 12-14 hour days and some hours on weekends.

He normally works 10-7 every day so, I guess I can't complain too much...

  • I'm in PA, but my husband works 6 days a week, sometimes 9 - 7, which is noooooo fun.  Every once in awhile he'll get home at 5, which is awesome!
  • DH's long hours come in groups.  Sometimes, we'll have a month or two where he's 6a-2p or 7a-3p and just M-F.

Then, we have months like November and December will be!  Today, he's doing 10, which is 6a-4p.  The big problem is that his commute will likely be about 2hrs because he'll be leaving in the height of traffic.  Saturday, he's working 8a-8p, minimum and likely longer.  He'll be working every single Saturday from now until the end of the year and, potentially, into the new year.

Thankfully, my parents are coming to visit Saturday so I won't be on my own the entire time!  By Saturday, I'm over being here and I usually take off on my own to a place where little people don't scream and poop.

Same as this lovely mommy, my DH is a UPS Tractor Trailer driver and I only see him 2 days a week.  I live in Maryland.

  • My DH works 7-7 usually. We all get up early & spend 30 minutes together before he leaves.
    Mama to Z - 5.5 years, G - 3.5 years, & M - 1.5 years.
  • Babylance - My DH is a cop too, and I HATE when he works nights. He's a cranky zombie on his days off, and I never see him the rest of the time. It is so hard to keep DD quiet and from pounding on the bedroom door and then yelling "Shhhh, sleeping, shhhh, sleeping ...."

  • My Dh has typical hours (leaves at 7am and is home by 6:30pm usually), except when he travels. He's gone at least one week a month, and this summer he was gone 10 out of 12 weeks from June-August. He was home on weekends though. It's hard sometimes, but I figure you've got to make sacrifices to have the type of job that can afford a family to be one-income, so I try not to harp about it or get too upset. Oh, and we live in FL and he sells banking software, so it's not only you MN gals!
  • After reading these I need to stop complaining, my dH works M-F leaves 4:45am & back by 6:30pm which is enough for me, but thank God I see him every night:)

We're from CA where everything costs a zillion dollars:)

  • My DH is typically out of town Sunday night through Friday night.  I am not SAH yet, but will be this spring.  I plan on traveling w/ him & baby as much as possible.
