C-sections

Body after 2+ c-sections?

Just wondered from the mom's who've had more than one c-section, was it much harder to get your body back after? I wasn't prepared for the "flap" after my first c-section, and it really, really, really bothered me. I did lose most of my baby weight after my DS, I probably would have liked to lose 10-12 more lbs, but I was in a size 6-8 just fine. But my stomach-- ugh it wasn't good! I did some weights and some cardio (and no ab work), so maybe that played a role in things not getting back.

I guess I'm just curious if things were about the same, or if you were much worse off after a second or third section. Is there hope? I realize it might be hard work (this is my last child), but I'm already thinking I'll have no choice but to get a tummy tuck one day :(

Re: Body after 2+ c-sections?

  • I was very lucky not to have a flap, but it took me longer after DD2 (c/s #2) to get back into my pre-pg jeans.  But, I was in a different place (SAH vs working mom) and I wasn't really trying to lose the weight right away as we had so many things going on then as well.  Once I did start putting in the effort (regular exercise) it was easier to get my body back.  I am scared to see what is going to happen to my body after the boys are done cooking (and after c/s #3), but I have just decided that I am doing to do what I can - exercise and eat right now, so it will be easier to get my body back later.  That and I've already told DH I want spanx :)

  • I had 2 c-sections and I had the flap after the first. I eventually lost alot of the weight when DS was 4 and although the flap wasn't completely gone, it was alot better. I could really disguise it at that point. After DS#2, I couldn't get rid of I. I was frustrated and depressed about it. This will be my last. Praying my doc will agree to tying my tubes and then I hope I can get a snip or tuck as a birthday gift. ;-)

  • My body was a lot more abdominal pain with my second c-section. I had staples with the first and that was the only pain I had. I had dissolving stitches with my second and the "bottom flap" hurts still 7 weeks PP. I'm not sure what can get rid of the pain or the flap but I am going to try some sit ups.

  • Mine is back to the way before my pregnancies, but lumpy. I was overweight to start with so I already had the flap

  • I have had 2 c-sections and yes, I had the flap after #2.

I am really dreading the flap after the 3rd one. LOL

  • I BFd and dropped the weight rather quickly.  But, the flap was still there.  It was from carrying both of my kids straight out in front.

  • I still have a flap, but it isnt any worse than after my first section. It's actually better this time around, but then again I was pregnant again at 4.5 months PP the first time around. :)

  • I've had my kids back to back (I'm pregnant w/# 3 and will have 3 under 3) so I'm sure that hasn't helped, but with the second it was harder. I'm pretty small and gained 57 pounds with DD. I lost it all pretty quickly and then some, and the flap wasn't too bad afterward, but it did bother me. I gained 40 pounds with DS, lost it all (but it took a bit longer) and the flap was worse. I want 4 kids, and have gotten DH's approval to get some work done after we're done Big Smile

  • I think everyone is different.  With DD I gained 50 pounds lost all of it by 15 months and was "flap free" by 18 months.  With DS (second c-section) I gained 30 pounds and am already down to my pre-pregnancy weight.  I've got just a little bit of a flap, but honestly if I would take a couple weeks to actually work out and watch what I eat I feel it would be gone quickly.  Running very quickly trims down my stomach, but makes the numbers on the scale go up due to building muscle quickly and easily in my legs.  If I'd just get my toosh on the treadmill I'd be fine! :-)

  • w/ DS1 it took me about 8 months to lose all my baby weight and I had the flap but it finally went away about 4 months into it.  w/ DS2 I only have about 5 lbs to lose and he's only 15 weeks old (I gained 40, so no small feat).  Perhaps 2U2 has something to do with it...... haha.  I'm heavy a couple more stretch marks but other than that, body back to normal.
