C-sections

When did you get your period after csection?

I only stopped bleeding at around 6 weeks PP.. and just yesterday I had a bit of VERY light.. almost just spotting ...dishcharge.  I thought it was my period.  but today not much more.. just spotting reddish/brown.  I'm not complaining.. but when does it come back regular?  I didn't have csection last time..

Re: When did you get your period after csection?

  • It depends on if you BF.. I stopped bleeding at 3 1/2 weeks pp. I had a period in feb normal. Then I didn't get another june, missed july but had it the week after (Aug) I was supposed to. Then again in aug normally like   I was suppose too, then a week later (sept) I was spotting w/ cramps. I am waiting for it yet again this month like I am suppose to.. I saw my doctor yesterday and she said it's my period figuring it's own pattern out. Plus she wants me to start on regular BC. My son is almost 1yr..

  • I spotted until about 6 weeks.    I am formula feeding since I have to be on blood thinners and just got my 1st PP period on Wed.

  • I've never heard anything to suggest that how you deliver has any effect on when your period comes back.  Whether you breastfeed or formula feed will have more influence on your cycles.  Everyone is different and it can't be predicted ahead of time.

  • When you get your period has more to do with how your baby is fed.  Usually BF moms don't get their period right away, where FF moms do.  We FF both our babies, I got my period at 7 weeks pp each time.

    This.

What I will say is that perhaps having a c/s can make bleeding more sporadic and potentially confusing.  I had three weeks of bleeding, stopped for a week, and then had another week of bleeding at five weeks.  Then I had my period 9 weeks PP and regularly after that.  I always assumed that the bleeding at five weeks was continued postpartum bleeding, but in retrospect it could have been a very early first period.  I certainly wasn't expecting it at the time because I was EBFing, but as it turned out BFing didn't delay my cycles very long anyway.

  • ITA that it depends on whether you are nursing or not.  My PP bleeding finally ended around 6w PP, but I didn't get a period until after my DS weaned when he was 16 months old.
  • I didn't think PP periods were affected by how you deliver. To answer your question anyway, I had DD in October 2010 and got my first PP period in August of 2011.
  • I BF DD fr a little over a year but my period didn't come back until 18 months PP.  The day she showed, I had no earthly idea she was coming.  It was so different than the typical  misrable cramping leading up it.  Sh just kind of showed up and said surprise!

  • I had PP bleeding for about 1 1/2 weeks after birth (c/s) then about 2-3 weeks later I had more bleeding that I thought was my period.  Turned out it was just more PP bleeding that only lasted a few days. I didn't fully get my period back till DS was 10 months old but I was EBFing.

  • I spotted up until my 6 week check-up. I didn't get my period until 6 months later. I was EBF-ing DS and my doctor said that that was normal.

Agreed. I thought I was done bleeding around 2 or 3 weeks, but a week later had a couple days of spotting, stopped, had some spotting again a little while later. Mostly after an active day. It was all a part of pp bleeding.

ETA: I got my period this month. I EBF.
