Not THAT type of happy ending, you dirty birds. I learned at my appt this morning that I tested positive for group B strep and will need an IV of antibiotics while in labor. There go my hopes for a med-free and IV-free birth. My MW then tried to find the heartbeat but couldn't. I wasn't concerned because I'm still pretty early, but she acted a little cagey and quickly scheduled an ultrasound for an hour later. My initial excitement about our first ultrasound was quickly replaced with "fvck, why the rush?" We went to the u/s place expecting the worst, but got to see our perfect, healthy baby! Heartbeat was great, size measured ahead of my estimate by one day, and there's only one baby in there! Yay for surprise ultrasounds.

Re: Bad Appt with Happy Ending
Yay for heartbeats!
Why did they test for it so early? I thought they test for it after 30 weeks.
it's weird, you can have it for one PG and not have it for another. I would ask her to re-test you around 34-36 weeks again, though. I'm not sure how long it hangs around for, but it's definitely not something I would mess around with either.
Here's some information: https://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/groupbstrepinfection.html
I am under the assumption once you have it, you have it. I tested positive with DS and I get to bypass the test with this one as they have indicated that I'm group B strep positive at my first pre-natal OB appointment.
I once had a picture until the trolls showed up.

This!
And they usually test for group B strep by doing a swab of the outside of your anus. They do it around the same time as your first internal exam, so around 30ish weeks pregnant.
