Hi,
Just wanted to get some ones opinion in caffine during pregnancy. I am craving coffee and tea and its driving me nuts I try to avoid it but there are some days that I have 1 cup of coffee or tea a day. Is this an ok amount or should I avoid it all together. I really dont want to do anything that could harm my baby. I am 11 weeks and 3 days
Re: So Im confused about how much caffine is ok
You're fine. everything that I have read says to try and have less than 300 mg a day of caffeine. But there is no evidence of moderate levels of caffeine negatively affecting the baby (moderate is less than 300 mg--a 12 oz can of Dr Pepper has like 35 mg....)
My Dr wants me to stay away cokes, and other caffeinated, she didnt tell me to stay awa completely to limit myself. but thats because I have elevated-borderline high BP...
The Baby Center book recommends limiting your caffeine consumption to no more than 300 milligrams day.
5 oz Coffee, Brewed, drip method (60 -180 milligrams)
5 oz Decaffinated coffee (1-5 milligrams)
5 oz Instant tea (25-50 milligrams)
12 oz Soft drinks (40-59 milligrams)
1 oz Milk chocolate (1-15 milligrams)
1 oz Dark chocolate (5-35 milligrams)
Light roast has more caff than dark roast. I learned that at the beginning of this pregnancy because I drank light roast. I was bummed!
I do a 20oz half caff from DD everyday. I may have another soda during the day.
I was told a cup or two is ok, but to be sure to replace whatever I drink with the same amount of water. It's mainly because coffee is a diuretic and can dehydrate you.
I'm not much of a coffee drinker anyway, but I treat myself to an iced coffee every few weeks.
I am limiting myself to one caffeinated drink per day. I will either have a cup of coffee in the morning, or a glass of iced tea for lunch or dinner. I LOVE Pepsi, so I'm trying to only have one Pepsi per week.
Really? I had no idea! I'm sticking to my 1 cup of coffee per day to keep the insides moving . . . it really helps better than anything else I've tried naturally
.
I wonder how I can find out what the Keurig cups contain . . .

In a nutshell, 75-150mg.
Thanks!
