C-sections

clothing after a c-section

Wondering what people do when they  aren't able to wear clothing from pre-pregnancy.

I am going back to work in November and I am already stressing out that I do not fit in any of my pants and shirts are tight.

I am not looking forward to going to the store to buy a new wardrobe with this new bigger size.

If you weren't able to fit in your pre-pregnancy clothes how much did you buy so that you could go back to work and not look totally pregnant still?

Greatly appreciate your responses!

Re: clothing after a c-section

  • I SAH but I still wore my maternity clothes after for about a month or 2. I guess I was a lucky one but I was back in my regular clothes 2-3 months after my pregnancy.

  • Could you seek out a few basics at a local thrift store or consignment shop until you are back into your pre-pregnancy size? For the first month after my c-section, I lived in yoga pants so you might be most comfy in a pregnancy stretchy top pant.

  • I would just buy one nice pair of black pants for cheap and wear my maternity tops or any flowy shirts I own. I'm 7 weeks pp and I am able to get into my prepregnancy jeans and zip up and button them now, but they are still tight. About 3 weeks ago I couldn't even zip them. I have started to work out lightly though in the past couple weeks and have been trying to eat a lot better since I'm breastfeeding.

  • For the most part I was able to use my pre-pregnancy shirts and a few maternity (that didn't look maternity) for the first few months back, I had to buy new pants. I bought a couple of inexpensive ones from Target to get me through the rough spot. It wasn't so bad. Dresses and skirts fit fine so it all worked out in the end.

  • It took me a long time to get back into my pre pregnancy clothes. I bought a few basics on sale where I could and I did wear my maternity clothes for about 3 months with the belly band to hold them up.

  • I am not going back to work yet, but I did need some jeans and a few casual tops so I just bought from Walmart and similar places because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a whole new wardrobe when I don't want to be this size. If I were going back to work, I'd just buy two basic pairs of pants and a couple tops, and use my maternity tops or looser-fitting pre-pg tops.

  • I SAH now, but I went back to work for a short time. I was 12 weeks post partum when I went back, I could wear skirts and dresses but my old pants did not work. I just got a few pairs of dress pants at Ross or TJ Maxx type places (and was happy to even find some with a little stretch) and made due with the shirts I had. Some maternity shirts would probably still work too depending on the style.

Pretty much this. Although I did wear lots of leggings and hoodie/track pants.

  • I wore my maternity stuff for about a month. Not because I didn't fit into my work clothes, but because my stomach was still sensitive. I didn't look pregnant when I went back.

  • I had to buy new clothes right after I had DD. My pre-pg clothes would not fit. I got back into them but I needed a few pieces in between.
