what did you loose after birth?

at our child birth class the nurse who taught told the class they could expect to loose around 12lbs once the baby is born. I'm assuming this doesn't hold true for twin moms, I'm curious what you all lost after giving birth? I know it depends on how large babies are and all but just curious bc I feel like with twins it would be at least 20lbs? I've already gained close to 50 :( I know it will be hard work trying to get back down in size over time but I'm looking forward to shedding a decent amount once the babies are born so I'm a little more comfortable than I am now. TIA

Re: what did you loose after birth?

  • I was down 25 immediately, and another 5 a few days later.  Then another 5 about 2 weeks later.  The last 5 took me awhile, but I have totally been on team fatass and eating what I want and not exercising.  Wink

Oh, and the girls were 5 lbs 14 oz and 6 lbs 3 oz at 36w2d.  I gained 40 total.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • My twins were born at 35w4d and weighed 4.15 and 5.9 lbs. I only gained 31lbs total and lost 26 by the time I got out of the hospital.
  • I lost 35 lbs within the first week.  I only gained 15lbs. the entire pregnancy and the twins were born at 36 weeks, 6 days weighing 6lbs, 4oz & 6lbs, 3oz.

  • At my last appt 3 days before having my girls I was up 30lbs.  They weighed 6.10 and 7lbs at birth at 38 weeks.  At my one week pp appt I was only down 20lbs, but by my 6 wk pp check up I was down a total of 50lbs.  I weighed 20lbs less than when I gave birth!!  I should add that I was overweight to begin with and ate really healthy during my pregnancy so I wouldn't gain a lot.
  • I came home between 30 and 40 lbs lighter.  I'd gained between 50 and 60 lbs.  Babies were born at 37w 1d, and were 4.15 and 6.5.  I had a fair amount of swelling at the end, so some of the weight was fluid.

By the time the babies were 3 months old, I was 8 lbs from my pre-PG weight.  By the time they were 6-7 months old, I was wearing all of my old clothes, including some stuff that was tight pre-PG.  I worked out half-heartedly and was just careful about what I ate.

  • I gained 47 lbs total.  Delivered at 36 weeks.  Girls were 5 lbs 2 oz and 4 lbs 3 oz. and I left the hospital 20 lbs lighter.  I didn't lose another lb until I joined WW almost a year after they were born.  Now I am down another 22 lbs.  I'd still like to lose more.
  • lose not loose :)

    I gained 38 total, when I left the hospital I was down 25 :)

  • How much will also depend on if you have a c-section. I only lost 18 in the hospital due to all the water weight from surgery and subsequent iv fluids. 12 weeks later I've got 8 pounds left (gained 62) but its coming off faster now with excersise.

  • I gained 54 lbs with my twin pregnancy. When I left the hospital I was only down 17 lbs BUT I'd had tons of fluid pumped into me throughout my induction so I think that was artificially high. By the 2-week mark I'd lost 35 lbs. But then people were bringing us meals the first two months and I ate a ton of calories and didn't have time to exercise (beyond running around to take care of the babies) so I didn't lose any more until the 4-month mark when I started WW and 30-Day Shred. Since then I've done some yoyoing and am currently 7 lbs above pre-pg weight. BUT I had lost 20 lbs right before we started ttc so I had set the bar high. ;) (I'm actually 8 lbs below wedding weight so I can't complain too much. ;))

ETA: Babies were 6lbs10oz and 6lbs7oz at 37w6d.

  • I lost 27 right away.  Then I had lost another 10 at my 6 week PP appointment.

...And then I gained 10 back from eating everything sweet in sight and drinking starbucks lattes like they were going out of style.  Now I am finally working on taking myself back down to my pre-baby, pre-IF weight that I was about 3 years ago.  Ugh, it is not an easy thing.

Dx with severe endometriosis. DS#1 conceived with Met and TI. TTC#2 for 2.5 yrs. Dx 2nd IF. 4 clomid cycles, 2 IUIs, Finally IVF#1 w/ICSI worked for us! twins born 35w3d. Unexpected total hysterectomy 6/11. Now on the HRT train.

  • I gained a total of 50 and lost 30 pretty much right off the bat in the next few weeks after I had them. I then lost 5 more and am now working on the last 15...blah. But I'm eating like a cow too because BFing makes me super hungry a lot. But my supply is great so I'm not willing to really diet just yet.

  • I didn't weigh myself at the hospital, but when I got home I was down about 15lbs.  I had a lot of swelling in my feet and legs after my c/s and it took a good week for that to go away.  So a little after a week I was down another 10 lbs.  I've been slowly but steadily losing about 1 lb a week now with not much exercise or dieting to speak of.  BFing helps!  I gained 45 lbs total an am now about 5 lbs away from prepregnancy.
  • I gained 60 pounds during my pregnancy. My girls were both 6 1/2 pounds. I went into the hospital weighing 180 and when I got home I was 140. Obviously a lot of that weight was babies, placentas, blood, etc., but I also gained a lot of water weight. I was super swollen at the end and I think I lost quite a bit of that weight in the hospital as well. I think by the time my girls were 3.5-4 months old, I had gone back to my pre-pregnancy weight (I exercised about 4 days a week for the first 3 months, so that certainly helped).

I agree. I didn't weigh myself until one week pp.  I'd lost 26 of the 34 gained. Boys were 4-9 and 4-13.  Everything else came off pretty easily afterwards.

  • I had major major fluid pumped into me for 24 hours before my c-section and another day afterward. Despite taking out 2 babies weighing 5 pounds each plus a 5-pound placenta, I left the hospital weighing exactly what I weighed going in. I was so so so upset -- and my skin was TIGHT, especially in my thighs and hips. I dropped 30 pounds over the next few weeks, though.
  • gained exactly 35lbs, delivered at 35 weeks and was down 20lbs when I got home from the hospital. The other 15 didn't really come off until I stopped breastfeeding affter 4mths.

For me it was counter to what everyone thinks about bf-ing helping you lose weight.  I dropped 10lbs when I stopped and the last 5lb came off when I started using our jogging stroller for long walks when they were 8mths old. I did 0 dieting, in fact I eat way crappier now !! :(

So 8-9mths to get back to my exact pre-pg weight - which seems to be my body's natural set-point of 107lb. Pre-pg clothes all fit, BUT I am way flabbier in the belly for sure!!!

  • I have to say I feel a little better and somewhat encouraged hearing of these weight gains/losses. I'm only 18 weeks along and have already gained nearly 30 lbs. I'm not eating a crazy amount, but I'm not doing any hardcore exercise either. (Before getting pregnant, I was doing P90X with my husband and I gained weight, was puking all the time, and turns out i was pregnant!) My energy is just sucked dry and I am sleeping about 2 hours during the day, 8 hours at night. I can't tell you how many friends and family have told me they barely looked preggers at 18 weeks, barely gained weight, lost weight, etc etc. I don't think 30 lbs is healthy but I also don't think I'm doing anything necessarily wrong. Anyhow, I'm glad you asked this question because I started to feel like I was getting too big!

  • I am not sure how much immediately, but I had lost everything by about 10 days pp. I gained 42 lbs, my girls were born at 36w3d, 4.15 and 5.7.

  • I gained 35 pounds total...Maxwell weighed 5 lb 2 oz and Miles weighed 5 lb 4 oz...I lost 25 pounds right away...I lost 5 more pounds by 6 months pp...so I have 5 pounds left...I always remind myself that my boobs are 2.5 cup sizes larger and I lost A LOT of muscle mass while pregnant and have been slowly getting some of that back.  So I don't know if the number means as much as how I feel in my body, and I think that I am finally feeling really close to normal.Big Smile

  • My mind. I lost my bloody mind after birth.

Oh, not what you were asking? Ooops.

I was down 50lbs of the 80lbs I gained within a week. Then I gained some back b/c of sh!tty eating habits and lack of exercise. I'm still up 30lbs and my guys will be a year next week.

I gained somewhere around 25lbs in the first trimester! it slowed down since then and seems to be picking up again as of the past week or so but Im also super swollen now so Im guessing its alot of fluid retention. I think some women just gain more or gain more early on either way, I agree, I'm feeling much better reading all the other posts. I'm hoping to at least lose half the weight quickly if not more, guess we shall see lol ;)
