Two Under 2

I'm already sick of it, and I haven't even told people yet!

I have a 9 month old and am 9 weeks along with my second, so I haven't told too many people that I'm pregnant yet. A few people (health insurance people, ultrasound tech, for example) have said things like "Oh, so you weren't trying for this one." and "You got pregnant while you were nursing? So it was an accident, huh?". UGH I've already informed my husband that we're going to straight up lie to everyone from now on and say we ABSOLUTELY were trying.

How did (or do) you deal with these rude questions??

  • It's crazy the way people react, isn't it?  I get a lot of looks when I tell people.  My DD is 8 months old and I'm 20 weeks along.

When I'm responding to people who don't really matter, I just kinda laugh and say, "yeah, I know...we're crazy."  Family and friends get the real explanation that we were planning to have a 2nd baby and this one just came a little quicker than his or her sister did.

  • On the flip side everyone on both sides has been asking us for months when we're gonna have another one. My mother asks everytime I see her especially around other people(annoying). One reason why we haven't told yet. GL

  • To those type of comments, I would usually say "no, we're even crazier-we planned this for our family!" and change the subject.

You really do get used to it over time. Wait until everyone asks if they're twins when there's a 12+ inch height difference/10+lb weight difference. LOL

  • I got this A LOT in the beginning, but now I barely hear it. My DD was 5 months old when we got pregnant with DS. It was planned and we were very excited! Even my dr asked if he was an accident. I couldn't believe how many strangers had the nerve to ask if we "slipped up" and got pregnant by accident or we had a lot of strangers say that DH must have been "ambitious." It was/is frustration, but you eventually learn to ignore it.

Now that we are so close to having 2u2, I just get the whole "wow, you will have your hands full" comments! I just say yes, and that's the way we wanted it and we can't wait!! Wink

  • It was really really hard for me, but I had a 3 month old when I got pregnant.

I'd go with the "trying" response.      Or, I used to tell people it was immaculate conception.

  • I was 3.5 months when I got pg. Tell them you don't know what happened but your dh must have taken advantage of your sleep deprived state. See what they say to that.

  • Yes, it was an accident but we talked about it and decided not to tell the father.

  • My MIL said "I guess you can get pregnant while nursing!" I was like, yup I had my cycles back and DD was planned....

People are weird. I would just respond by saying, that this pregnancy is definitely wanted and was in our plans.

    I like that.

I don't remember getting too many of those comments. I got a lot of people telling me I shouldn't be doing certain things like going up and down stairs. Really ?  Or I shouldn't be going to the gym !Or that I'm crazy or going to have my hands full!

    I like this one lol.

Mine will be almost exactly 2 years apart, so I didn't get as many comments in the beginning, but now when I'm carrying DS around with my giant belly, I get, "How old is he?  When are you due??" or "Wow, you're going to have your hands full," or "Two in diapers... did you do that on purpose?"

Doesn't bother me.  I just smile and let them think I'm crazy.

  • I'm afraid of what my mom will say. My brother and I are 2 years & 3 months apart. Growing up I loved it and thought it was perfect. My mom confessed to me recently is was really difficult and she wished they had waited. My MIL also seems to think 3 years apart is magical! We planned it so I guess we'll just say God answered our prayers. I mean, what can they say to that!

  • We just tell the truth- it was very hard to get pregnant with Jackson and we are so grateful and blessed that he's getting a sibling so quickly, for us it was a miracle.  I always say to the "accident" question.  I've never met a child I could call an accident- every child is a blessing.

God this is so us. It took forever for my first son so we decided not to abstain from trying but it was a shock for us that it happened so fast & I have just been saying we planned but we didn't really expect it to actually happen.
