I haven't posted a ton on this board, but I delivered my beautiful DD this morning after a super fast labor! DS was born 3 1/2 years ago at 37 weeks, within about 6 hours. My big fear all along was that this baby was going to come fast too, especially b/c I live about 45-1 hour away from the hospital. Beyond some mad nesting instinct to clean my house yesterday, I really didn't have any clue. At my 38 week appt on Wednesday my OB said he thought I would go within the week, but I was still only about 1 cm and 50% effaced.
So, last night around 12:30 I woke up and my underwear was slightly wet, but I really had to pee and it kind of smelled like urine (sorry if it is tmi), so I figured that was it. I did get a big stomach cramp around that time, and sure enough 10 minutes later got another. I also had to poop though really bad, so it wasn't until about the 4th ten minute round that I was thinking ok, these are definitely contractions. By that point, there were a couple in the 6-8 minute range, but not as strong as the 10 minute ones.
I woke up DH and we decided to head for the hospital. We left at around 2 by the time my neighbor got there, and pretty much right around that time the contractions went anywhere from 6-10 minutes to about 4 minutes. By the time we got to the hospital at 2:45 they were every 3 minutes, but when they checked me I was only 4 centimeters dilated. However, these contractions were STRONG! They checked me in triage and had me hooked up to the monitors, etc. and finally around 4:25 or so they put me in the birthing room to wait for the epidural, which I was desperate for. The IV was almost done when I really started to get the urge to push. They checked me really quick and told me no time for an epidural, it was time to push b/c baby's head was practically out! Thank God my OB had gotten there pretty much right then. During the next contraction they had me push and with one long push (thank God!) she was out. I tore a tiny bit but only two stitches. Luckily she is pretty tiny at 6 pounds, 3 ounces so she came out very easily.
The only worrisome thing was that I tested positive for Group Strep B and only had time to get one round of antibiotics. Luckily all of her bloodwork has been fine, but we have to stay for 48 hours for observation.
All of you mamas out there that are planning a natural birth, more power to you, you are amazing! There is no way I would ever choose to do that again without an epidural like I had with DS, so I think you are so strong! I am kind of proud of myself though that I did do it, b/c it was a huge fear of mine that I wouldn't make it and it turns out I didn't. All in all, labor was about 4 hours, 15 minutes.

Wow congratulations!! Wish you and your family all the best
congrats on your DD!!!!!!!!!!!!! My first labor was also super short at just over 4 hours and I just barely got in the epi at the last moment (i was at 9.5cm when i finally got one). Basically what happened to you is what I'm worried about and my labor will be even quicker this time and I won't have time to get an epi! congrats to you mama for going natural!
