High-Risk Pregnancy

hospital bed rest

Hello ladies,

I am new to the board and thought I would introduce myself.  I am going to be 25 weeks on Sunday and I have a really rare condition known as Vasa Previa.  I was put in the hospital a week ago Tuesday and am about to go mad.  My husband and I live in North Carolina and love it here.  I will be here until the beginning of December...they want to do my c-section at 35 weeks because of the Vasa Previa. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to stay sane on bed rest?

  • I have been on hospital bedrest for 7 weeks already and I keep busy by doing puzzles - crosswords, sudoku, etc, I have also been reading both books and on-line.  I also have been coloring and reading magazines.  The computer definitely does help make it more bearable to be here.

Good luck to you and just think your little ones have lots of time to grow.

  • I've been on hospital bed rest for 4 weeks and started crocheting this week. It has helped so much. I'm done with a hat for the baby and I'm going to make another hat with matching booties and a blanket. If I finish all that I will start on more for my baby and probably a gift for my pregnant SIL. It honestly makes you feel like you are accomplishing something and passes the time really well.

  • Thanks for all of the suggestions.  My family was going to pick up some coloring books, word searches, and other items today.  I can only watch television or read for so long.  I made my first chain link crochet last night and I need lots of practice!

  • While I am not happy any of you are on hospital bed rest, I am glad to hear I am not the only one.  I am 32 weeks and have been here for 4 weeks.  Hopefully I can hold out another 4 before I deliver.  I have placenta previa, which drove me here to the hospital.

Do you work? If so, can it be done remotely?  I pass the time by working during the week  I can do my job remotely and the conference calls with clients have been a blessing.  Cross stitching also helps.

  • I'm sorry you are on hospital bed rest as well. It is not fun.  Luckily I don't work (I was fortunate enough to quit my job a year ago so my husband and I could travel before adding a little one.) Everyone on here has had great suggestions of ways to pass the time.  My Mom brought me some adult dot to dot books today that are actually fun and some coloring books.  I know it is a little silly, but I actually enjoyed coloring today.  I am going to try to crochet but I am left handed and I am having a hard time learning.  Are you going to have a scheduled c-section around 36 weeks?

  • I had Vasa Previa too and lived in NC during the pregnancy.  (We just moved).

It's good to see that you've got really cautious doctors.  I guess luckily I was only in the hospital for a month prior to my c-section but I did worry a lot in the time before while I was at home.  We did live close to the hospital though.

I watched a lot of netflix, knitted, read and played video games and surfed the web  (pinterest would have been awesome back then...sigh).  I also took a ton of naps and found that I had a hard time concentrating on doing much.

I also wanted to say that it was very scary all the waiting but we have a wonderful little boy that is almost 2!  This time will be so worth it and will be such a distant memory for you though it seems so long right now.  Good luck to you!   If you'd like, you can email me at asliceofawesome at gmail dot com.

  • where in NC are you? I'm on hospital bed rest also here in NC (Raleigh). It's been about 2 wks and internet, magazines and books are my past time of choice :-)
