We live in a LCOL area and the cleaning lady that was recommended to us by a friend wants $30 an hour. I told her I would call her back tomorrow and let her know what I thought. Honestly, I think that's way too much but I'm not sure what the going rate is around here and what other people pay. Her duties would include vacuuming, dusting, moping, and cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen. WDYT?

Re: If you have a cleaning lady please come in.
We live in a high cost of living area and we pay our cleaning lady $35 an hour. She's here for about 4 hours and we pay her $140. This is every other week for a 2400 sq ft townhouse.
I think $30 for a LCOL area would be a bit high. How long does she think cleaning your house would take?

Did she give a sense/estimate of how many hours she thinks it would take for her to clean your house? $30/hour in a LCOL area seems high to me but if, for some reason, she was estimating she could do your house in 1.5 hours or something, then that doesn't seem so crazy.
I live in a very HCOL area (NYC) and always paid around $45-50 per hour for our cleaning service.
We live in a LCOL area, and that would be WAY too high here.
I pay $10 an hour...but she isn't too good. I am about to get rid of her and get a two person team.
Ash,
Our lady when we lived in Powell was $85 every two weeks but she was cheap compared to what i had researched. I think it took her about 4 hours. However, the others were services and I think thats why they were more. Our house was 3000+ SF but she only cleaned the areas we lived in at it was just the two of us then.
We are in the middle of searching for someone now that we are back in town and I'll let you know what I find out.
I pay 120 flat fee for a house a little over 4,000 sq feet. I live in an average sometimes lower cost Central Florida. I don't think 30 an hour is too much to be honest but I think Im the minority here haha.
My cleaning lady is here from 2 to 4 hours depending on if she brings someone or is alone. So 30 an hour to me seems right on.

our cost of living is maybe comparable? I think we're in the medium range.
Anywho, we have a cleaning lady that comes once a month and charges us $130. She's usually here 3 hours or so? Maybe longer. And does floors, windows, dusting, bathrooms, kitchen, living areas, etc, etc. (whole house is about 2100 sq ft.) HTH?
