Success after IF

If you have a cleaning lady please come in.

We live in a LCOL area and the cleaning lady that was recommended to us by a friend wants $30 an hour. I told her I would call her back tomorrow and let her know what I thought. Honestly, I think that's way too much but I'm not sure what the going rate is around here and what other people pay. Her duties would include vacuuming, dusting, moping, and cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen. WDYT?

Re: If you have a cleaning lady please come in.

  • We live in a high cost of living area and we pay our cleaning lady $35 an hour.  She's here for about 4 hours and we pay her $140.  This is every other week for a 2400 sq ft townhouse.

I think $30 for a LCOL area would be a bit high.  How long does she think cleaning your house would take?

  • That seems like a lot.  We pay $110 and it is two people and they are here for about 3 hours.  We go through a company and DH thinks we pay too much as it is.

  • I feel like that is a little high. We had spoken with a cleaning lady to do our home when we were in Dublin and I remember it was going to be less than $100 but can't remember if that was weekly or monthly.

she was the mother of our neighbor in Dublin I can find out how much she charges for sure and her contact info if you would like.

  • Did she give a sense/estimate of how many hours she thinks it would take for her to clean your house?  $30/hour in a LCOL area seems high to me but if, for some reason, she was estimating she could do your house in 1.5 hours or something, then that doesn't seem so crazy.

I live in a very HCOL area (NYC) and always paid around $45-50 per hour for our cleaning service.

  • We live northeast of Cincinnati.  The lady I use once in a while charges $20/hr.  She is cheaper than most around here but I do think $30/hr is high.
Dx with severe endometriosis. DS#1 conceived with Met and TI. TTC#2 for 2.5 yrs. Dx 2nd IF. 4 clomid cycles, 2 IUIs, Finally IVF#1 w/ICSI worked for us! twins born 35w3d. Unexpected total hysterectomy 6/11. Now on the HRT train.

  • We're in a HCOL area and pay $90 for 2 ladies, who take about 2.5 hours to clean. So that breaks down to $36/hr, or $18/hr per lady. We also tip them $30 (for 2) though, so it ends up being $120/2.5 hours or $48/hr and $24/hr per person. If they only send one, she takes about 3.5 hours and it costs the same so comes out to $25/hr (plus tip).

  • We live in LCOL area also. We have two different ladies that we use. We pay each 60$ for them both. One is 60$ for abt 4 hrs or so and that's my whole house. If she goes over the 4 cause I ask her to do something else ie clean out the fridge, whipe down the front of the cabinets Ect I just pay her 10$ more an hour. The other lady I use is much older 60ish it takes her ALL day to clean but she is kind of slow.. I don't really mind cause she is so nice and loves Jake! I also have to drive her home.. She doesn't speak good English or drive.. That does make it a little annoying. So I would say that 30$ an hour is crazy! How big/how many hours does she think it would take to clean your house?!
  • We live in a LCOL area, and that would be WAY too high here.

I pay $10 an hour...but she isn't too good.  I am about to get rid of her and get a two person team.

  • Google "compare cost of living" and you can compare the responses here. I live in a LCOL area, compared to Cali or NY, but it is high for TX. We pay $20 an hour. I have paid $30/hour for someone who did an insane deep cleaning.
  • We have a company and they send 3-4 people each time and are done in 1-1.5 hrs for our ~2000sq ft house.  We pay $90 every other week, and live in a HCOL area.  For a LCOL area, that sounds high to me...I would get another estimate!

  • Ash,

Our lady when we lived in Powell was $85 every two weeks but she was cheap compared to what i had researched.  I think it took her about 4 hours. However, the others were services and I think thats why they were more.  Our house was 3000+ SF but she only cleaned the areas we lived in at it was just the two of us then.

We are in the middle of searching for someone now that we are back in town and I'll let you know what I find out.

  • I pay 120 flat fee for a house a little over 4,000 sq feet.  I live in an average sometimes lower cost Central Florida.  I don't think 30 an hour is too much to be honest but I think Im the minority here haha.

My cleaning lady is here from 2 to 4 hours depending on if she brings someone or is alone.  So 30 an hour to me seems right on.

  • our cost of living is maybe comparable? I think we're in the medium range.

Anywho, we have a cleaning lady that comes once a month and charges us $130. She's usually here 3 hours or so? Maybe longer. And does floors, windows, dusting, bathrooms, kitchen, living areas, etc, etc. (whole house is about 2100 sq ft.) HTH?

  • That seems like a lot.  We pay ours $70 for the whole job 3-4 hours.  So, about $17-22 an hour.  We live in a MCOL area (I think)!
