Baby Names

Is Jo Jones too much alliteration?

My favorite girl name is Josephine, NN Jo, but our last name is Jones and I don't know if I'm ok with Jo Jones.  H likes it, because he likes Jo Jo.  I don't love Josie, I really perfer Jo for a NN.

If these babies are both girls I think I want them to be Cordelia and Josephine. WDYT?

Re: Is Jo Jones too much alliteration?

  • It's not the alliteration so much as it is the repeating "Jo" sounds. It sounds like Jojones.

  • I love Cordelia, but Josephine Jones does not work at all IMO.
  • It doesn't work. Sorry. Love Cordelia though.

  • We too are Joneses and this is why I never would use the name Jonah. I really love this name, but could never do that to a child. I love Cordelia, however. It's my daughter's mn!

I guess Josephine Jones isn't so bad, but Jo Jones is horrible. Sorry.

  • I like Josephine Jones!  But I don't like Jo Jones.  I grew up in eastern Ohio.  Back home we eat jojos.  They are potatoes.  That is all I think of.  That, and if you don't have it written out in front of you and you just say it, you kind of don't know where the first name is ending and where the last name is beginning.

  • Definitely too much.

And for some reason it makes me think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's Grandpa Joe and Grandma Josephine.

  • I really don't like Jo Jones, it's not a name you would take seriously.  Like Cordelia though!
  • I think Josephine Jones is very pretty, but Jo Jones sounds like someone stuttering to me. Repetition of the first sound occurs often with stutterers, so it comes out like La Laura or Ja James.

    Could you call her Josephine?

  • I love Cordelia and I love Josephine.  But, I would not do Jo Jones; it's just too much.  I would find something else to go with Cordelia.

And, when I first skimmed the title of this post, I thought you wrote Jo Jonas (as in Jonas Brothers), and I was like hell to the no!

  • I don't like it, it just reminds me of Joe Jonas. Blech.

  • I love Josephine and chances are she won't be a Jones forever. Go for it!
  • Sorry, Jo Jones is horrible.

Josephine Jones isn't fantastic, but it's doable.  But Jo Jones?  Ugh, no.

  • I wouldn't use it.  Could you use it as a MN maybe and her NN could still involve Jo then (like make a NN out of a shortened version of her FN+Jo)?

  • This is tough because I love Cordelia and Josephine together, but I hate alliteration.

One of our friends dated a woman named Joliene who went by JoJo.  I just think it is dreadful for a grown up.  Plus, because my DH is prone to immaturity, he was constantly making french fry jokes about her.
