Prentice Billing Question

I had my DD at Prentice 4 months ago - and I'm STILL getting bills. I thought we had paid everything last month and I just got another bill for a pretty substancial amount of money. When do the bills stop - I've called them several times and they've told me twice this is "the last one" - my DD was in the NICU for 15 days so maybe my situation is different, but I'm at the end of my rope with them!

Re: Prentice Billing Question

  • I have gotten multiple bills too.  I'm trying to figure out what has been covered by insurance and what hasn't. It is all very confusing.  I missed their call yesterday and I called them back the same day and had to leave a message.  They still haven't called me back.  I received a NW bill and then a separate bill from the anesthesiologist.  Hopefully, that will be it. Good luck!

  • I'm delivering at Prentice in a month, so I don't have an answer but I have a few questions, now.

Did either of you have universal billing with your doctor's office? Were these charges on top of regular charges you were expecting?

Just curious and trying to figure out what I should expect. TIA.

  • I had something similar, except they called Global Maternity, where I paid upfront because they already knew what it would cost me out of pocket. I, being naive, didn't think about the hospital having their  own set of charges. So I received another bill from NW which I believe is my responsibility (still not really sure).  I need to call my insurance to find out.  I also received a separate bill from the anesthesiologist for my epidural. I would have thought my insurance would cover that.  I'll have to check with the insurance company on that too (Ihave Blue Cross Blue Shield). In total the "extra" bills were about $3000. I hope thats it. The good news is that NW will let you start a payment plan if that helps. Good luck!
  • No doctors actually work for NMH.  So that's why you'll get bills from NMH and then from NMFF (faculty foundation) or NMPG (physician's group).

  • Good to know. I also have Blue Cross Blue Shield and was under the impression that my out of pocket limit per year would have covered those hospital charges. I guess I'd better start putting a little extra aside to cover those extras.

    Thanks, everyone.

  • Thanks for the feedback - I've paid my OB and the Faculty but the hospital keeps sending bills - I figured it out though and it does have to do with the NICU stay. They said this last bill was our final bill so I hope it's true!

I got tons of bills after delivering at Prentice.  We got a bill for the doctor, a bill for the hospital stay for me, a bill for the hospital stay for my DD, a bill for the anesthesia (epi), a bill for the doc who checked out my baby the day we went home... it seemed to never end.

Yeah - I'm definitely not delivering at Prentice again, really disliked my experience there and the endless sea of bills didn't help their case. :)

Thanks for this info ladies! I actually work @ NMH & will be delivering here because my Dr is here & my insurance is here.  I know that we use Aetna here, & all the people I have talked to have not received any extra bills; but you never know.

I do know that with Aetna we do have a copay of $100 if the baby goes into the NICU, but if everything goes well & baby goes straight home its waived.

Make sure when you get a survey from NMH that you write on there ALL of these complaints.  They hate to get bad reviews & will probably try & resolve the problems right away.  You can probably talk to a supervisor in customer billing/services & let them know about this billing didaster.

Sorry again for the bad customer service, I actually work in stem cell transplants; so don't deal with the billing side at all.

Good luck & congrats on the new additions to your families :-)  I can't wait to have my LO :-)
