Mom Friends Uptown

I have been living in NOLA for 3 years, and I just had my first baby.  I moved here to get my masters, so all of the good friends I've made here either moved away or are not mommies and do a lot of non-mom activities.  I don't want to sound desperate or anything, but it would be nice to meet some other moms in the area.  I live uptown, and I'm home with my son about 95% of the time.  Does anyone know of anything inexpensive/free where new moms can meet?  Or is anyone interested in going out for a mid-day coffee?

    wow, i thought i was the only one, but we're in the same boat! (except i work all day & DD stays home with DH). Since you're home, have you tried the Parenting Group? It's every Tuesday at 10:30 am for moms & babies up to 6 months. It's an informal gathering of moms talking about their babies...babies lay on the floor and play! Debbie is a great mentor!!!!

    Tuesday, August 16 - Snuggles and Struggles New Parent Group

    Are you a new mom or dad looking for a playgroup, an outing, or a chance to talk about issues and topics regarding parenting?  Find answers, support, or friends at The Parenting Center, a most wonderful resource for parents!  This is a weekly ongoing group providing learning opportunities and socialization for the parents and their babies. Topics open for discussion include crying, sleeping, feeding, infant behavior and development.  A staff member is on hand to facilitate discussions. 
    Where: Uptown Parenting Center, 938 Calhoun St.
    When: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
    Who: Parents of newborns to babies 6 months of age.
    How: Just show up with baby!! Free and open to the public!
    Cost: Free and open to the public.

    That sounds great!  Thank you!  I think someone told me about this while I was pregnant, but I didn't take good note of it then.  I will definitely check it out this week!  It will be a good outing and a nice walk for Cosmo and me.

    let me know how it goes...i would've loved to have kept going but sadly i had to come back to work. Zukababy also has some nice events every once in a while...although right now their calendar looks almost empty Confused  i've been meaning to go to their "Milk party" in the evenings...i'll get to it soon enough!

    I grew up in New Orleans and find myself in a similar situation.  I just found a mom group on meetup.com.  You should try that.  My son is 18 months old, but I am a stay-at-home mom so if you need a day out with another mom, you can give me a call!
