Happy Saturday!
For those of you that have packed your bag or just had a baby I need your advice! What are some must have items, and what can I leave out? I have a list I was following but I wanted some personal ideas from you
This is for me & baby.
Thanks!!
Re: Must haves in hospital bag?
i used the list in DH's dad book - it made him so happy lol.
i have a t-shirt for myself (though not sure i will wear it, maybe just home), a robe and slippers that i don't care if they get ruined, nursing tanks, maternity yoga pants to wear home, a hoodie and toiletries. i also bought a travel size pack of anti-bac surface wipes and hand wipes and some cottonelle wipes to help clean up the hot mess i'm sure down there will become.
i plan on wearing a hospital gown most of the time and the mesh undies they provide b/c i've heard they are so comfy.
also camera, extra camera battery, camera battery charger and cell phone charger.
nothing except snacks for DH b/c he isn't allowed to spend the night (tiny NYC hospital rooms means i have a roommate).
ETA - i also packed some warm socks.
My sister just had a baby and said her "must haves" were a robe, slippers, comfy blanket, and toilet paper wipes.
She never wore her underwear as she only wore the mesh ones at the hospital.

I bought a pack of always overnight and always heavy. I got the infinity one which are thinner, is that bad? I figured if they are made for overnight/heavy is should be ok. I need to buy underwear for the ride home and first couple days.
eek! making my list!

::tilts head to side:: not supposed to wipe? Do you just air dry or something then?
Yes, the peri bottle is a must use. You really dont want to be touching down there after giving birth. And yes you just kinda air dry. But honestly there are so many fluids coming out, you are never really "dry", thats why pads are a must have. I used the always infinity overnight and that worked great. But I didnt start using them till 4 days after birth when I left the hospital.
Also, make sure you get the ice packs for down there after you give birth. Your hospital should supply those.
If you plan to BF then maybe your boppy also. Definitely, a nursing bra and pads if nursing. Flip flops or slippers for wearing around the hospital. Definitely snacks for in the middle of the night when you get hungry. I also brought my own toiletries b/c Im picky. I wore the hospital gowns because you leak a lot and its just easier for them to bring you a new one.
For baby just an outfit, and carseat are all you will really need. I brought 2 outfits of different sizes just in case I had a big baby. The hospital has pretty much everything you need.
oh my goodness. i'm attempting a vaginal delivery (though with twins it could change quickly). i'll still bring the wipes (they are already packed in the car) but i guess i won't need them...
IUI#2 - 01/07/09 = BFP!!! Twins!! Pre-term labor 20 weeks
IUI#3 - 1/31/10 = BFP!!!! M/C - 8wks
IVF #1 - 7/2010 = c/p
FET - 9/2010 = another c/p
IUI#4 - 2/14/11 = BFP!
Woops! Just saw these. Yes, my sister did have a c-section but she did get to 9.5 cm and tried pushing so she was still sore/swollen down there. She said the TP at the hospital was so rough. I think she used them for wiping after pooping? TMI, I know!

Oh, and shower stuff! Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. It was amazing how human I felt once I had a shower after not getting one for a few days.
I had slippers packed, but my Fred Flinstone feet were WAY too swollen to even begin fitting in them. Looking back, I should have bought a different style.
that is what i bought them for too. goodness, we have a lot to look forward to ladies!
