Has anyone delivered at the Woman's Hostital? My husband and I are considering that hospital and going to tour this weekend. I was just curious of what everyone's experience was there.

L&D was fabulous, I had 4 nurses and loved them all...PP was an awful experience for me, the worst being no one notified my pedi I had delivered...he only found out by chance cause another one of his patients had delivered. DS was in the NICU and it was almost 36 hours after DS was born until he actually saw him. I heard the pedi rip the nurses a new one for that and the other issues, and the LC confirmed it...she was wonderful, and I LOVE my pedi....starting that day. Beyond that I had tore when I delivered, worst possible tear, yet the initial nurse who helped me in PP explained nothing to me about what I was supposed to do, neither did any other nurses that came into the room, even though they went into the bathroom and could tell I hadn't used anything. They gave me a hard time when the vicotin wore off and I asked for more. All the stuff to make my "salami sandwich" and my sitz bath was in the bathroom, I just wasn't told what any of it was or what to do with it. It wasn't until after my pedi made some noise did someone finally come in and explain it all to me. Of course they treated me very well after that too. The last issue was not that big, more annoying, NO ONE picked up my food trays...I had three in my room scattered throughout. It wasn't until the LC came in and said something to one of the nurses about all the food trays did they get picked up.
This is my experience and I think I am in the minority, I highly doubt I will deliver there again though, if I do at least I will know what to expect. Even though I read my books to prepare, as a first time mom I didn't really know what to expect when it happened, what the nurses should do, the pain I would be in, it was all such a whirlwind and after 36 hours in L&D I was exhausted.
I did not like my experience with the post-partum nurses. I switched hospitals for my second baby (because of the nurses and my OB, who I wasn't very happy with). My second delivery was so, so much better.
I talked to a NICU nurse friend about the nurses there, and she said she hears about this all the time. Apparently TX Women's way overloads their post-partum nurses. She said she would never apply to work there because they expect the nurses to tend to far too many moms. She said that it doesn't excuse the care she hears people complaining about, but my guess is you are getting less-experienced nurses who are willing to work there under those conditions.
Obviously everyone has a different experience, and you could get wonderful nurses. I did have one that was sweet and helpful, but she didn't make up for my experience with the others.

I've had 2 kids there. Of the probably 25 employees I saw during 2 births (c-ssections), I had one really really crappy nurse's assistant and then one annoying LC who clearly didn't hear me when I said it was my 2nd child and nursing was going great. I can forgive her for her enthusiasm. Over all, though, I wouldn't let that one employee, and she was really bad, damper my experience. She could have left by now and be working at any other hospital in Houston, bringing her rotten attitude with her. I was very happy with the over all level of care I received and would definitely have a 3rd there. If there are any complication, god forbid, this is THE hospital to be at for both you and your baby!
I did not choose to have my second child there. There policies have changed some in the 4yrs since I gave birth there, but I doubt their attitudes have.
However, if you have a known medical issue and must have a c/s, then it's probably a good choice.
My L&D experience was great (as far as the hospital goes), the nurses were very supportive and nice, I wanted to try and go natural and they were supportive of that and waited 4 hours after my water broke and I didn't have a single contraction before starting pitocin, after 4 hours on pitocin I caved and got the epidural, but didn't feel pushed too. It was administered in less than 5 minutes once I asked for it, which was very nice. I had a hard, complicated delivery, but that wasn't anyone's fault.
My PP experience was not great though. My first PP nurse was very mean, and kept threatening me with a catheter if I didn't get up to pee. My epi hadn't worn off and I couldn't even move my toes. She also made me feel really embarrassed and told me some things that were happening to me were not normal (but they totally were). Everyone else was fine though.
It's the only hospital my OB delivers at and I haven't made a decision about having another child there yet, as we're not even trying, but it is something I will have to think about.
Re: Woman's Hospital in Med Center
Congratulations!
The search on here is pretty cruddy, but here is a fairly recent discussion:
