Background: DD was born on the 3rd, we took her home on the 4th, and the morning of the 5th she stopped breathing twice. After a five day NICU stay, we were sent home with medications for reflux and an apnea monitor.
The belt of the monitor is giving her a really bad rash where ever it touches. The doctor at the clinic said there is nothing we can do about it. I feel so bad because my little one is so young, and I know the rash is bothering her. It is almost like huge patches of pimples and irritated skin. He could not even recommend a creme to put on it. Penelope has been fussy since the rash started two days ago, and I know its causing her discomfort.
Does anyone know of what I could do, or what I could put on it it give my little one some relief?
Re: Anyone have/had an infant with an apnea monitor?
My son was on an apnea monitor for some months.
Is it a fabric belt?
My son was on the monitors in the hospital for a long time and had a hard time with the sticky stuff their leads used but did well with the fabric belt. Perhaps your daughter would be the opposite and would do better with the sticky leads?
I would actually call your medical supply company and ask them about alternatives.
In the mean time, I would wash the belt itself to make sure it's not something on the belt (vs the fabric itself) causing the problem, and then try a protective layer of maybe aquaphor under it, to try to keep it from irritating her skin any more than necessary.
With your daughter being so young, sometimes its harder to find okayed meds. I don't think she's old enough to have a benedryl type cream yet. But you could ask at your local pharmacy to see if any kind of allergy cream is okayed for a young infant. Even diaper cream and some powder might help to protect her skin.
