REM broke up

Now I AM feeling old.  But thanks to a great band for providing much of the soundtrack of my youth.

I first saw them in the mid-80s when they played a tiny bar in my Midwestern college town.  Then, a few years later, in a basketball arena (with the Replacements as opening act, no less!).   A few more concerts here and there, and finally at Red Rocks a few years ago.

In retrospect, they were a band that has run it's course.  30 years is a really long time for any musical act.  Not to mention trying to rein in Michael Stipe's ego! HA

Re: REM broke up

  • crazy!  I'd heard Stipe was an *ss but figured if they had dealt with it for this long, they would be able to deal with it still.

  • When was the last time you heard a NEW REM song?

    I think the 90s.

So to me it's no big deal.  But, then, I didn't really like them.

  • Boooo.... I had a crush on a guy in high school who luuurrrrrved them.
  • I think it's great that they broke up in good terms.  At least they won't be like Billy Idol.  He's playing a concert at my local country fair.  I'm thrilled but I think how sad.

  • Too bad, I didn't see them live! They did good though.
