Well i found out today that by my babys measuements im 37 weeks but by my due date im only 35 weeks. My doctor always told me that with me having high BP he recommended a c-section around 38 weeks. and im just wondering what was everyones thoughts on this. this is my first baby so im new at all this
Re: c-section
I'm a little confused. Is your doctor wanting to do the c/s in a week, when you are only 36 weeks based on your due date? Your doctor shouldn't be basing a c/s date based on (what I assume) are fundal height measurements. Or even ultrasound measurements for that matter.
Personally, as long as your BP is in check, I would request NST and BPP tests and put off the c/s as long as possible.
I had high bp with dd. I also had protein in my urine. Do you have the protein? Are they going to do the 24 hour urine test on you? They put me in the hospital and did the test and also put me on bedrest. Since the levels were not to high and my bp was stable from being off my feet they wanted to keep the baby INSIDE. They had me go into the office to do u/s and also do stress tests 2 times a week until I was 39 weeks.
I did do a scheduled c-section but my doc did all the necessary measures to keep me pg. THey did not want to deliever early for her lungs. Of course if something was NOT right then he would have delievered her early.
Did your doc discuss doing anything like this with you? If NOT talk with him about it. I would not do a c-section before 39 weeks unless MEDICALLY necessary.
That being said. I am NOT a doc and don't know all the knowledge they do... YOu have to trust your doctor and do what BEST for you and your baby.
Open the discussion ..........
Do not do a c/s if you are measuring ahead. I measured five weeks ahead at my 36 week appointment. My baby just never dropped.
However the BP issue is an entirely different story. If you are at risk for pre-e you could ask to be induced before going straight to a c/s.
It would not be uncommon to deliver if you have signs of pre-e or worsening pre-e at around 38 weeks. At that point, a doctor can make a decision that maybe the risk of delivering a little early is far better than staying pregnant. It will really depend on your blood work, your BP, and what a non stress or bio physical profile shows.
Measurements taken on US are helpful info for doctors, but just one small piece of the puzzle. Often the key thing they are looking for is to see how accurate the they think due date it. If, for example, your due date shows 35 weeks but measurements show 32, they'll worry more than if the due date shows 35 weeks but the baby shows larger.
Please keep this in mind, most people are correct that the u/s can be 1 lb off in either direction. In my case this was true, but it was 1lb in the heavier direction. Use all the pieces of the puzzle to make your decision. In my case, my DS never dropped. I thought the dr was just trying to push a c section on me, but upon delivery he was truly a BIG baby... 10lbs 9oz. The weight wasn't necessarily the issue but his large head and 15 in shoulders would have been a huge issue for him in delivery. I am with everyone else, don't get a c section just to get it. Wait it out if possible, but sometimes it is best to trust your doctor and the signs your baby is giving you.
