Just curious- which do you prefer? What do you think of other spellings such as: Katheryn, Catheryn, Kathryn, Cathryn, Katharine- or any others I've left out.
I prefer Catherine. I think it's because I'm more comfortable with C names. My name starts with a C, one of my brothers, my sister, my mother, my bff.
What I find really odd: FIL's sister is Karol Katherine nn Katie, his second's wife's daughter was Katherine nn Kate, third wife's daughter was Katharine, and most recent long term girlfriend's daughter was Katherine nn Katie. Someone has a Katherine fetish, maybe?
We chose that spelling simply because our last name is a little tough and we wanted people to spell her name correctly 90% of the time (we know she will be spelling her last name out almost every time). It is the most common spelling of Katherine and the most intuitive. We also wanted to call her Kate as a nickname and I prefer the look of Kate to Cate.

My name is the "y" version of Kathryn - I go by Katy, so it works. It is a legit spelling and has been on the SS name listing as far is it goes back so I don't mind it. Some of the other "y" versions you listed seem more made up.
I am always spelling my name, but with the C/K spelling variations of the name I would probably have to spell it out no matter what the spelling was.

I love Catherine the best. After that, I like Kathryn. I feel that Katherine (I knew a lady named Kathryn Jane and I've loved it ever since.) looks very harsh, so I don't care for it.
I think it depends on whether there is a certain nn you prefer. For example, if it's Kate or Katie, I would go with Katherine, and if it's Cat, then Catherine.
I don't like any of the other spellings. And I really don't like the nn Kathy/Cathy.
My parents tell me they actually preferred Catherine, but since they knew they wanted to call me Kate (with a K) they wanted the first letters to match (and didn't like Cate with a C, apparently).
I actually love the way Katharine looks, though. And for what it's worth, any time I have to give someone my full name I always end up spelling it anyway. It's never really been a big deal, but I think that's just going to happen any time you have a name with multiple spellings.

I like Catherine best, Katherine second. I don't really like any of the other spellings but I've never really been a fan of anything other than mainstream spelling.
In order, I like Catherine, Cathryn, Katherine, Kathryn, and then the rest. While I don't normally like y's in names, for some reason Cathryn doesn't bother me. I prefer C to K in almost any name in which the two letters are interchangeable, but that's just a personal preference.
I like Catherine best, but if we went with that name, we'd call her Kate, so I'd want to spell it Katherine, since I don't love Cate.
My BFF is Catherine and I was with her once when she met another woman named Katherine. They had their own little language:
C or K
K
Long or short? (meaning -therine or -thryn)
Long
It took me a few minutes to even realize what they were talking about, but apparently it's a secret Catherine code. So, I probably wouldn't deviate from those versions (like adding an A) since those are the universally known ways. My name is spelled odd and it's pretty annoying.
I prefer the Catherine spelling over Katherine, and do not really care for any of the other alternative spellings. However, if you are thinking of using a nickname, I prefer Kate to Cate. I'm not sure I'm really any help .
I'm surprised no one mentioned Katharine Hepburn. That's the only time (beside former step-SIL that I've seen it). I know several Katherines, one Kathryn, one Catherine and one Cathryn.
I think it's interesting how most people said they prefer Catherine over Katherine even though several pointed out that Katherine is the more commonly seen one. Perhaps our children's generation will see more Catherines and therefore prefer Katherine more?
And here's an excerpt from Wikipedia, but seems true enough, about Katherine of Aragon, Henry VII's first wife: Her baptismal name was "Catalina", but "Catherine" was soon the accepted form in England after her marriage to Arthur.[36]
Catherine herself signed her name "Katherine", "Katherina", "Katharine"
and sometimes "Katharina". In a letter to her, Arthur, her husband,
addressed her as "Princess Katerine". Her daughter Queen Mary I called
her "Quene Kateryn", in her will. Rarely were names, particularly first
names, written in an exact manner during the sixteenth century and it is
evident from Catherine's own letters that she endorsed different
variations.[44]
Loveknots built into his various palaces by her husband, Henry VIII,
display the initials "H & K", as do other items belonging to Henry
and Catherine, including gold goblets, a gold salt cellar, basins of
gold, and candlesticks. Her tomb in Peterborough Cathedral is marked "Katharine Queen of England"
And his fifth wife:
Catherine Howard (c. 1518-1524 ? 13 February 1542), also spelled Katherine, Katheryn or Kathryn, was the fifth wife of Henry VIII of England, and sometimes known by his reference to her as his "rose without a thorn".[1]
And his sixth wife: Catherine Parr (Katherine, Kateryn, Katheryne or Kathrine); 1512[1] ? 5 September 1548) was Queen consort of England and Ireland and the last of the six wives of King Henry VIII of England.
So out of 3 queens there are 11 possible spellings: Catherine, Katherine, Katherina, Katharine, Katharina, Katerine, Kateryn, Katheryn, Kathryn, Katheryne and Kathrine all as options for spelling. Sheesh!!
I'm a Kathryn and I like the way it is spelled. I always say "with a K and a Y" but like someone else mentioned, I would have to clarify "with a C or a K" anyway. If you gone with a "erine" ending I like it better with a C I think. I hate the nickname Kathy, I go by Katie. My husband is Bryan so he has similar issues with spelling. I like how both names are very common but slightly unique (but legitimate) with the spelling.

My mom's name is Kathryn. I really like it, but she said that when she was in highschool she really wished she had been named Catherine because Cathie seemed more popular/cheerleader and she would have felt "cooler," lol. Spelling it Kathryn kind of suggests that the nn has to use the Y: Kathy.

Catherine/ Katherine are fine
Kathryn has been a standard spelling for years. It's not a part of the "y" trend. Cathryn, though, looks odd.
Katheryn/ Catheryn and Katharine all look really odd too. Don't like them.
