Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 mo naps

Hi!  A few times DS has taken super long naps recently, like 4-5 hrs.  Today he's been napping for 6 hrs so far.  I'm not complaining bc I'm working from home today but is this normal??  Usually my mom watches him and he either cat naps or on a really good day will nap for 2 hrs, max.

  • 6 hours straight??? holy cow! lol

How much is he sleeping at night?  The longest nap LO has ever take is 3 hours and it was after his 2 month shots.

I'd be freaked out about it messing up his night sleep.  But then again...EVERYONE says never wake a sleeping baby.  However in this case I think I would.  hehe

In addition...no temp or fever right?  Eating well I presume?  I guess could be a random growth spurt?  I'm a FTM so I have no clue  :o)

I know, I was worried too!  He sleeps from about 730pm-7am, sometimes STTN, other times waking up about 3-4am to eat.  The super long naps have never messed up his night sleep schedule.  He's fine...no fever, eating normal... a growth spurt could be a good guess though!

  • I try not not let DD go longer than 3 or 3 1/2. Longer than that scares me into thinking that she's going to flip her days and nights or something.
  • It's normal.  My baby is 13 weeks today and has had a couple of days where he's napped for 5-6 hours and I let him.  He could be having a growing, not feeling well or just tired.  If he wants to sleep, I let him.  The only time I've waken him early is when it's close to his regular bed time and I don't won't him up throughout the night.
  • LO has done this about 3x so far that I can remember and it has not impacted his sleep that night at all.  These little babies do a lot of growing.  Sometimes they just need more rest!  If he isn't running a fever then I would not worry about it.
