DS has been swaddled since he was a few weeks old, and it has really helped him sleep longer stretches since his arm movements can't wake him up. We currently use the SwaddleMe sleepsacks. BUT...this morning I saw him (on the video monitor) roll over onto his tummy. He hasn't rolled over from back to tummy while awake yet, which is why we kept swaddling. Of course after seeing this, I am scared and know we have to stop swaddling. He is just shy of 4 months old. My question is do we stop swaddling and start sleep training at the same time (to get it all over with at once) or stop swaddling first? He has his 4 month check-up next week so I will know if he has doubled his birth weight at that time.
Thanks!!
ETA: Just went back and read the UO Thursday posts. Guess I won't be getting much advice with this topic...lol
Re: Humor me with another sleep question :)
I highly recommend you reading some books (different tactics, if you're not sure which method you want to try) and go from there.
But a quick answer to your question: you can do it all at once or bit by bit. It's up to you. Bit by bit may be a gentler way to go , or it may turn out that by drawing it out, you're prolonging the disruption to your LO's sleep. (Think Band-Aid removal.)
I'm not suggesting the best way to go about sleep training your LO because all babies are different, and only you know your LO best.
It's really all about what you are comfortable with. If you think it's harder on your LO to do it all at once, then go slowly.
I'm of the opinion that all at once is sometimes a better option because it doesn't prolong the transition. But again, that's up to you.
