Cross posting this from Workinig moms...
We're having a pitch in Monday and I have no clue what to bring. Here's what is on the menu:
Smoked briscut
Potato Salad
Green Beans
Cornbread muffins
something sweet
fruit
I cannot make baked mac n cheese for the life of me, and I don't know why. What other good items could I bring that would go good with this? I'm usually pretty good in the kitchen but really am just stumped on what to do.
Re: Side Dishes?
I tried a million mac and cheese recipies and could never find a good one. Then my sis made this great mac and cheese dish. I asked for the recipie and she told me its just the instructions from this specific box. Don't buy any of the other kind. They key is not to over bake it. 15 mins max I am vegetarian so I leave the meat out.
Coleslaw? I really like this no-mayo, oriental slaw: https://allrecipes.com/Recipe/ramen-coleslaw/detail.aspx
ETA: Make sure you don't combine everything until the last minute though, or it will be soggy.
In Texas, you can't have brisket without baked beans. Depending on how many people will be there, get some cans of baked beans - doesn't matter what kind, but I usually use Bush's. Dump them into a glass baking dish, or to make your life easier, use one of those tin, throw away dishes. Add some BBQ sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray's), brown sugar, cooked bacon crumbled up, and just a little bit of mustard. Stir it all together, bake at 250 for an hour and a half or 300 for about 45 min-1 hr. When they're bubbly and caramelized looking, they're done.
ETA: If you would prefer to bring a starch, this also goes over really well with groups of people: https://southernfood.about.com/od/sidedishcasseroles/r/bl90911d.htm
I like mine kind of spicy, so I add in a dash of cayenne pepper for a kick.
