Large hard spot near armpit

Hi ladies...I'm thinking I might have a blocked duct, although it was my impression that they would be a little farther down on the breast (toward the nipple).  This spot is about 2 inches across, maybe a little bigger, and is near my left armpit.  It's in the part of my breast almost under my arm.  I hadn't really noticed it before this morning, but when I woke up and felt it, it is definitely rock hard.  Do they develop that quickly or have I just been oblivious?  It doesn't hurt at all though.  I am an exclusive pumper and lately I have not been getting nearly as much from that side.

Does this sound like a blocked duct and if so, where would you start?  Massage?  Hot shower?  Compress?  Obviously, I really don't want this developing into something that requires antibiotics.

    Yep. Sounds like a clogged duct. I always get one on my left side, almost in my armpit. Friggin hurts.

    This is what works for me- take a washcloth, throw it in a ziplock, microwave for 25 seconds or so... massage the area, with the hot compress, while you are pumping or feeding. Push towards the nipple. I have had this work a few times, but I had to be a little 'rough' with it . Its gonna hurt a little, but it will release! Ibuprofen 30 mins before helps, too.

    p.s.  I have always notice a slight drop in supply from the clogged side, but it usually makes a comeback.

    I have one right now too...I have a hot water bottle that I fill with really hot water and put it on the lump while nursing/pumping. I have gotten them a few times now, and they usually show up when I first wake up in the morning. You are definitely on the right track with massage, hot shower, and compress. Mine usually clear up by the end of the day. And pump a lot from that side to get the milk flowing again :)

    Thank you so much!  Your family is as well!!  I hope to get a family shot in the siggie sometime soon.  Smile

    And thanks to everyone for the advice!  I'm happy to report that I was able to get the duct to unblock late last night.  My chest feels a bit bruised, but definitely much better than it felt yesterday.  I appreciate your advice!
