Assemby Required....appt. with Kelly Dorfman

We had our appointment with Kelly Dorfman on Tuesday.  She was AWESOME.  If anyone is looking for a nutritionist in the MD/DC/VA area I would seriously call her.  She will even do a phone consult if you cannot make the drive to her house.  I would also highly recommend her book "What's Eating your Child".  Anyway, we are taking Landon off of dairy (which includes his formula).  Instead of formula we are mixing together rice milk, coconut milk and a powder from metagenics (can't think of the name).  We are also starting Landon on theraputic levels of a bunch of supplements.  Kelly works with many children with crazy genetic disorders and she was a wealth of knowledge.  I love going to appoinments where the practitioner/therapist see a unlimited future rather than a child with a degenerative condition.

Thanks Assembly Required for recommending Kelly in a previous post.

  • oo! ooo! OOO! You're welcome! Awesome! I am sooooo excited to read your post!

    What was her reasoning behind taking Landon off dairy? Is there something I should know about dairy and brain development?

    Did you ask her about tumeric?

    When do you see her again? I am soo excited you lilked her! I am trying to convince DH that we should go to her. So far, I am just doing stuff at home like fish oil and Vit E. I was hoping for some fabulous results from those two things so that I can convince him her ideas have merit. I have not seen any fabulous results yet.....

    It is great that she was able to interact with you in a way that was hopeful rather than hopeless. Even though I think she is legit, do be careful about how far you are willing to go. I hope she does not see an unlimited pocketbook too. ;)

    :::butting in:::

    Dairy does nasty things to the body.  It increases mucus throughout the body, thus the link between dairy and ear infections, asthma, etc.  Pasteurized milk products contain chemicals, antibiotics, etc. that are harmful to the body.  The removal of the antibiotics alone will help you to improve gut flora.  An imbalance of good vs. bad gut flora is linked to all sorts of neurological disorders and issues.

    We do a lot of (what some consider to be) alternative treatments at our house.  If you ever have any questions, please feel free to ask!  Vitamin E and fish oil are both wonderful additions.  Tumeric is wonderful for inflammation issues, I take it daily and we add it in our food as well.  We have really been moving more and more towards nutritional healing and trying to supplement less, but it is definitely a process! Homeopathics have been absolutely life changing for our family, I don't know how they work, but good Lord do they ever work!

    Leslie, I'm happy you had such a wonderful appointment!

  • we are taking dairy out of his diet because he has eczema and he always sounds congested.  The supplements that we are adding are B vitamins, Vit. E, DHA, and few others that I cannot remember without looking at the sheet.  We are giving him theraputic dosages of all of these things.  So these dosages are higher than what is recommended on the bottles.  This first step is to help with his brain growth.  When we have our follow up in november (over the phone) she will be adding more things that will help with his hypotonia and developmental delays.  I'm not worried about her taking my money because she is not selling us any supplements.  We are only paying for the appointments with her (she actually gave us a form to submit to our insurance company and if it's denied then she will help us fight that as well).  She really didn't comment on the tumeric but she was pleased that our homeopathic doctor added D-Ribose to his diet.  It really was a great appointment.
  • yeah! Thanks for the update.

  • I think we are replacing his multi with the b-complex. I just emailed her to double check. That list is just the supplements that she wants added to what we already give him. We were already giving him the following:1ml Nordic naturals DHAVit. E. vit. C and coQ10 which we have compounded at the pharmacyPrevacidD riboseCurcumin plus (turmeric)
  • Probiotics? Ferments? I've been using nettles as a source of natural vitamins for our kids. Gives them a great nutritional boost, tons of B that is easily assimilated by the body.
