Whose LO has already tripled their birth weight? (This is *supposed* to happen by one year, I've read.)

There is no way L is going to triple. He's barely going to double it at this rate.

Granted, if the goal was for all babies to triple their birth weight by 1 year, there would be 18 lb one-year-olds, and 30 lb one-year-olds.

For L to double his birth weight, he would need to be 19 lbs, 4 oz. He has 2 whole pounds to go!

Just curious what other LOs 9 month stats were compared to birth, and how many babies have tripled. Also, we see our pedi Oct. 3, so I was curious (until then) what pedis are saying about your LOs weight gain in regard to tripling.

I was curious about this as well. LO was 8lbs 4oz at birth so she'd have to be over 24lbs and she's only 18lbs 4oz now! There's NO WAY she's going to gain 6lbs in the next 2 months and 1 week!

We have our 9 month appointment next Wed. going to ask about this.

I actually have never heard this about tripling birth weight. My oldest daughter and my oldest son tripled their birth weight by a year but they were below 6 pounds when they were born. The other 2 were close to tripling their birth weight by a year but I don't think they quite made it. Isaac weighs around 19 pounds - so he would need to gain 2 more pounds to triple his birth weight. I can't imagine a 10 pound baby weighing 30 pounds at a year old. I think it is probably for average sized babies - 7.5 pounds or so.

My pedi said they should double their birth weigh by 6 months and triple it by a year. My LO is small, she was only 6ibs 14 oz at birth. I can't remember off the top of my head her 6 month stats, but we were just at her 9 month check up and she weighed in at 15 lbs 7 oz. She is only in the 5th percentile and my pedi acutally suggested we go to a growth clinic to make sure she is okay.

I can't imagine that my LO will triple her birth weight my 1 year.

There is no way Ari will be triple. He was 10lbs 5oz at birth. He is now 24lbs

J was 5lbs5oz at birth and has already trippled (almost 19lb at 9m). He had doubled before 4months. But he's still on the small side in the 25th percentile. He's been on the same curve (within 5 percentiles of 30) since his 1month and he's hitting all major milestones so no one is worried about anything.

Ha! At this point I'll be amazed if Evie doubles her birth weight. She was nearly 8lb 15oz at birth and was 15 lbs 2 oz on Monday.

Landon was born at 9 lbs 5 ounces and 19.5 inches. At his 9 month appointment he weighed 25 pounds 4 ounces and was 31 inches. My pedi has never mentioned birth weight tripling by 1 year. Actually at his appointment the pediatrician seemed surprised by his size (over 100th percentile for both) so I'm pretty sure I would have gotten a lecture if he weighed more lol, that's a whole different story though (not too fond of our current pedi).

I doubt he will reach 20 lbs by 1 year. He's only 17 lbs now, and I don't see him gaining a pound a month! I've never heard the triple the weight rule either though.

J was tiny at birth. He only weight 6 lbs 4 oz. He's definitely tripled, he's at 22 lbs now. By 1 year, he will probably quadruple (sp?) his birth weight.

What is funny is that he didn't regain his birth weight until he was 3 weeks old. I was so worried about his weight in the beginning, I guess he's making up for that now.

Miles has tripled his birth weight. He was 7 lbs at birth, and he was 21 lbs at his 9 month appointment. The doctor said he was in the 60th percentile for weight.

Is this odd? No one else seems to have a baby who tripled his/her weight!

Avery would only need to be 19 lbs to triple her birth weight. I think there's a chance it'll happen by a year, but it'll be close.

My Pedi told me not to get too wrapped up in weight especially since Kiya is now walking. She said as long as babies are eating and gaining at a good rate then there should be no concerns. She also said that the weight will slow down the more mobile that babies get.

I think dd will be spot on, but she was just over 5 lb at birth. She was 14, 11 at 9 months. I was 6 11 at birth and 16 lb at a year so she seems to be following in my footsteps.

DD was 8lb2oz at birth and at 1 year was 18lbs. So she just a little over doubled her birthweight. DS was 8 pounds even and is right on track to triple his birthweight. At 9 months he was 21 pounds.

Bridget would have to gain 4+ pounds in 3 months. I doubt it. Since 6 months she's not even put on 4 pounds.

William will definitely triple by 1 year. He was 7 pounds 1 ounce at birth. He was 20 lbs. (and 29 1/4" inches) at his 9 month appointment this week.

I got out my baby book this week and compared William's size to mine as a baby. He is so much bigger than I was. At 9 months, I was 15 lb. and 26".

E has almost tripled his birth weight already. He was 6 lbs 12 oz and is now 20 lbs, so within the next month I think he will.

LOL my guys tripled their birth weight by 6 months- they are now each well over 20 pounds- 4X their birth weight. They were preemies- but they sure caught up.

Nora has already tripled, but she was just a shade under 5 lbs at birth. The pedi hasn't said anything about it in those terms -- just that her growth is great and she'd climbing the percentiles.

DS won't. He was 8 lbs, 15 oz. at birth and 17 lbs, 9 oz. at 9 months.

My Pedi never said anything about this. But for example, DS1 weighed 9.11 at birth and didn't triple his birth weight till over 2 yrs old!!! I have big babies, but DH and I are small. My Pedi is not concerned because its just genetics taking over once they're born!
I don't have DS2's latest stats yet, but he was 8.15 at birth, 13.3 at 6 mo. I'd be shocked if he weighs more than 16 lb right now. I'm putting him to bed in a 3-6 mo sleeper right now!

DS was 7 lbs 4 oz at birth & 6 lbs 12 oz at time of discharge. He was 18 lbs 4 oz at his 8 month check-up, so I imagine he'll triple his weight by 1 yo.

I just read that stat today and we went in for our 9 month appt today (although he's 9 mo 3 weeks). He was born 7 lb 4 oz so tripling is 22 lb.

Today he weighed 25.5 lb (95 percentile) and is 31.5 in (95 percentile). His weight is average for his height and I can't believe that he isn't slowing down yet!

I've never heard this, but we are pretty much there. G was 7 lb, 9 oz. at birth and he's about 22 lbs now. but he is a big boy.
