TTC # 2, having issues. HELP?

Hello all. Back for baby number 2..... :-))

I definitely need some help and advice. Here are my issues:

Since having my son in Nov 2010. My cycle days ahve been decreasing. For ex.,

April - May 29 days

May - June 28 days

June - July 27 days

July 26 days

Aug 25 days

I explained to my OB, which is the same OB, I gone thru before...that my cycles were decreasing. She said it was okay, as long as I don't get as low as 21 days.

I started my 1st round of clomid (50mg) on 8/31/11 and using my iPhone app(s), I should have O'd between 8th and the 13th (on another app). So I have been using opk's to pinpoint when. Im on cd 25 today...No O. WTH!! I kept using opk's till a few days ago. Dr says she is not suprised that I didnt ovulate with my short cycles. She is increasing to 100mg of clomid, for my next cycle. If I have any more questions I can make an appt and talk to her. What is confusing, is that I have PCOS and according to online pcos friends, I could O late. Yet, I am having short cycles. So I am confused. My OB said if I didnt O by cd20, I wasnt going to, that is why she bumped me up to 100mg for my 2nd round. Could weight be a factor? I was 237, when I got pg last time. I gained 70lbs whle pg. I am 289, right now. Long story...about my weight and losing weight. My OB is not concerned with my weight, because I had to consume lots of extra calories, so I can breastfeed. I stopped on 8/31/11, to start clomid.

I also had the worst case of food intolerance since taking clomid. Extreme nausea, on top of beng dizzy. So my hubs thought I am pg because that is how I was when I got my BFP last year. But sadly, I took a POAS, and Im not.

So to everyone, help? short cycle, people with PCOS, and using clomid.

TIA,

Sunny

Edited to add: I don't temp, because Im up all times at night with my 10 month old. I also have fertilityfriend.

  • :( I'm sorry that you're going through this. There are other ladies who can probably comment more specifically about clomid etc, but I wante to say that if you are not temping to track your O date I would strongly encourage you to. You can find tons of info on www.fertilityfriend.com Good luck

I second this. I am so sorry you are having issues. I have no experience with clomid, but unless you are charting, you really won't know when you O or when you are most fertile.  We just started trying and I am going to start charting if I don't get pregnant this cycle. The fertility friend tutorials, on the right-hand side of your screen, are awesome!

Another great place to get information is the Trying to Get Pregnant board on this site. You can find it on the left-hand side of the screen. Go read the newbie link (even though you aren't really a newbie to TTC) and lurk on some of the threads. They have great information over there and can be very helpful. Just make sure to lurk a little before asking questions. They can be a little snarky if you don't ask questions intelligently, which is frustrating when you just want help. GL!

  • When I was on clomid my doctor started monitoring me daily (or maybe every other day) at around day 9 to count follicles and measure them, and to get a blood draw to see how mature the eggs were.  When they were getting big enough I would take a shot to "trigger" ovulation - I believe it was called ovidrel (sorry it's been a while).  Are you not doing any of these things?  How do you know how many follicles are created?  Are you taking OPKs to know when to have sex?

I'm not sure I would be worried about cycle length, clomid can kind of create odd cycle lengths.  Though I do not have PCOS so maybe it's a different story.

I would suggest finding a new doc if you aren't being monitored more closely on clomid.

Our first little one is getting big!

  • Thanks all. No I am not being monitored like that. Just my questions being answer, when I have them. Once I am to become pg, I make an appt have the pregnancy confirmed then get bloodwork.

My OB is nice, we dont have fertility insurance. So getting insurance to cover my monitoring  is hard, except if im pregnant.

Im going to make an appt...I was waiting to get my cycle before I went.

  • It is practically useless to be thrown on clomid with no monitoring.   Clomid can thin your uterine lining and can cause ovarian cysts.  Those need to be monitored closely, and it's important to see how you react to clomid and when you ovulate and how many mature follicles you create - if you happen to really over react to clomid and get 6 follicles, you could be looking at multiples that you might not be wanting.

With PCOS, I know most peoople have a lot of luck with Metforin (?).... I would talk to your doc about that, and maybe talk to an endocrinologist...

I'm sorry you're going through this.

  • I don't have PCOS, but I agree about being monitored on Clomid.  Maybe ask your RE about ovarian u/s.  I had them each time I was on Clomid.

Also, I'm guessing you can't temp because you are up with your toddler (as you mentioned).   In order for the temps to be counted, you have to sleep 3-4 hours straight.  So, I'm guessing you don't do this.  To be honest, when I was charting full-force, my temps were not reliable.  I did OPK's and temping, but my temps were not regular and I didn't always have a standard spike.

Anyway, wanted to wish you luck and agree with the ladies about being monitored while on Clomid.
