Did you do accupuncture for IVF?

Trying to decide if I should bite the bullet (it's a bit expensive here in NYC) and go for it as I've read so many great things about accupuncture increasing IVF success rates. Thoughts? Experiences? Here's what the center I was referred to suggests:

Come in after menstrual cycle for abdominal massage to prepare uterus. Accupuncture 2x's per week during stims and day of transfer.

Re: Did you do accupuncture for IVF?

  • I have in the past and I loved it!  It's very relaxing and is said to increase blood flow to the uterus.  Sadly, I haven't been able to for this cycle, because I got laid off and just can't swing it financially.  But, without working and commuting, I'm not nearly as stressed for this cycle as I was for the last ones!

    Good luck!

  • I am planning to start. My first appointment is Oct 5th. We were hoping to also do our next IVF cycle next month and I've been told it takes a few months for the accupuncture and usually herbs to work, but it's so hard to get into one here that I figure i should get rolling ASAP.

Red raspberry leaf tea is also supposed to help 'tone' the uterus. It sure helps with cramps!

  • I'm going to make an appt. to start accu in November (we're hopefully doing IVF in January).

I give this a major side eye but the accu clinic my RE office refers their patients to says they have a 79% success rate for their IVF patients Hmm

    We shall see...

  • I have been going since June and LOVE it. I go once a week and also take chinese herbs. I am going to see a new RE next week, and will decide when to stop herbs after talking to him about IVF #2

The acupuncture has really helped me overcome the stress, anxiety, and worry that I used to feel. Overall I am much more at peace since starting acu.

  • I love it! My person sets up a scheduled based on your IVF schedule. But it is ridiculous expensive.

If you can afford it, definitely give it a try.

  • Nope.  My RE said if it helps with relaxation to do it, but he's of the mindset that it doesn't have a drastic impact on the outcome.  It may be something I consider in the future

  • We could not afford accupuncture.  We found a chiropractic school that has an accupuncturist with fertility expertise on staff.  She is in charge of my plan of care-but the students do the accupuncture.  It's only $25 per session, which fits in our budget.  Something to consider, if money is what's stopping you from giving it a whirl.

  • I'm going through IUI next month but have been seeing an acupuncturist since August. If cost is a factor, you can look into community acupuncture clinics which offer a sliding scale, just find one who specializes in fertility.
