Hi ladies!
It's been awhile since I've posted anything, but as we near our LO's 1st birthday I realize I have no idea what we should do! I'm in need of ideas and suggestions based off past experiences...what did you do for you LO's first birthday? Where did you have it? And when do you send invites?
We don't want to do anything too over the top...we'll save the bigger parties for when he's older, but this first birthday is a huge milestone and he's been through so much being a preemie and all that we want to make it special.
TIA for the help!
Re: 1st birthday ideas?
OMG!! I can't believe he is going to be 1 already!!!!
For August's 1st birthday, we made it big. Invited all of our friends and family and his little friends and had sandwiches, salads, chips, watermelon and drinks. And of course cake. To me it was the most important birthday.
Today, we had August's 2nd birthday party and it was a much more low key. We only had cup cakes and drinks but had little goody bags to take home. Both birthdays were at a park with a fountain for the kids to play in (since we are so lucky to have a summer birthday).
We stayed small for the 1st and 2nd. I?ve been to a lot of the big 1st birthdays, and the kid is either oblivious or overwhelmed. It?s confusing for a little one to have to be passed around people they don?t know and do things just for a photo op.
I always think ?what would DD want?? Her first was a casual get-together with immediate family. Highlights were a pool, bubbles, a stroller walk with grandparents, and cheesecake (she loved cream cheese). Her 2nd was similar, but with a menu of her favorite foods (hot dogs for the kids, corn on the cob, grapes/fruit salad, baked beans, corn bread, etc).
We went to a fun 1st birthday with a doughnut buffet. The party was in the morning when kids are feeling fresh. The parents just got a few dozen doughnuts and coffee, so they weren?t stressed out. The kids played and the adults chatted. Everyone had a great time.
We went to another good one for a child with special needs. His parents had been through a lot with the first year, so it was great they celebrated. They basically threw a child-friendly party with a moment for song and cake. It was good fun.
Very true. Most of our pictures of our first birthday are of LO crying.
We had a small intimate family get together at our house just 1.5 weeks ago. Just the grandparents and a cousin and aunt...10 people total. It was perfect. Pizza, asian salad with grilled chicken, veggies/fruit, pretzel rods dipped in chocolate, drinks and made ice cream cake. We visited, did cake and presents and then I had a DVD movie of Alex's 1st year.
link to my blog with pics of our party. I made the decorations with inspiration from etsy. very easy. I also did a photo montage invite with a picture for every month with the truck party theme..made them on paint.net and printed at kinkos.
