  I got the heartbeat for just a few seconds today.  Just make sure you are listening to the baby's heart beat and not yours... it'll be twice as fast.  Not sure which model you have but mine, the read out of what the heart rate is is totally wrong, so make sure you time it yourself.

  The sound is definitely the most important thing. It should sound like a quick clicking or galloping horses sound, like you said. If you have the Sonoline B, the monitor will flash a heart symbol anytime it picks up anything that resembles a pulse. It's even started flashing and given me a reading when I picked up the sounds of my stomach digesting. If you haven't picked that up yet, wait until you do- it sounds really funny.

  I've also found the reading to not be entirely accurate every time, so keep that in mind too. I focused so much on the screen at first, but now try to just lay it screen down and just focus on the sound because that's what is important.

  Awesome!!! you are right the hb sounds like a gallopping horse, very different than any other sounds you may hear around... I love my doppler, even though is not the same I got with my first pregnancy, this one doesn't have the screen to show the little flashing heart or the bpm. But As long as I get to hear my little horse, I'll be fine. Congrats on your new doppler.

  I swear I heard the HB two days ago, but I couldn't find it today (of course when DH was listening ) I am not really stressed though, I know it is pretty early.
