Hello, I am 18 weeks along with baby number two and will go again to the Topeka Birth and Women's Center. I cannot say enough great things about it! I live about 2.5 hours from Topeka (near Emporia) and was surprised to find out that many parents make a much longer drive.
I was interested in hiring a doula and when I mentioned it to the midwives at the Birth Center they suggested that I wouldn't need it because they will fill that role....and they did! I did not use one and can say without reservations that the nurse and midwife at your birth will focus on both YOU and your baby.
The Birth Center is in an old victorian home about 2 blocks from 2 major hosptials (which was reassuring to my family). A very comfortable setting.
I also loved the Topeka birth center. The midwife, Norla, is very knowledgeable and truly cares about her patients. I attempted delivery there but was transferred halfway through to St. Francis. It was a wonderful hospital and very family oriented. All around it was a great experience.
