So I went back to the OB today. The vaginal u/s showed that my cervix was about 2.5cm and funneling slightly. So I wasn't very hopeful about getting off bed rest. But then we went in to see the doctor, and she said that since I wasn't showing any other signs of PTL, I didn't need to be on bed rest and could go back to work on Monday.
Actually, it was really odd. The doctor I had last week seemed super conservative, and the doctor this week was very blase during the appointment. She was in and out really quickly. This might be TMI, but she didn't even have me remove any clothing when she examined my cervix. I was wearing a skirt, so she just put the stirrups up and was like, "l'll just slide your underwear aside." No nurse present, but at least my husband was there. I was weirded out. She said that even though she could fit her fingers in my cervix, it was still long, so I was fine. And she said to come back in two weeks. I was really surprised at that, because I got the impression that if I'm showing signs of my cervix shortening and funneling, they would want to keep a closer eye on it. In fact, this doctor wrote down for me to come back in two weeks, but not have an u/s again for 4 more weeks. I've been getting an u/s at every appointment since day 1; I thought that was standard for twin pregnancies since they are higher risk. I had to argue a bit with the nurse to get her to schedule me for an u/s with my appointment in 2 weeks. So honestly, even though the doctor said that I could go off bed rest and could go back to work, I'm nervous about it. I'm worried that she wasn't taking the situation seriously enough. Thankfully, the next appointment is with a different doctor and it's a week from Monday, so that's actually only a week and a half away. I really hope I never see this doctor again.
Re: Off bed rest! But my doctor was weird...
Wow-I would seriously question what was going on. When I had just some funneling on the u/s (with a cervical length of 3.5) I was put on modified bedrest. Cervical length and funneling are best measured through internal ultrasound, and not through "feeling".
Are you seeing a MFM? Could you take it easy this weekend, and put a phone call into them? Or to another OB at the practice that you trust a little more?
I don't get an u/s every week, but when we saw the funneling they had me come back in a week for a cervical check. It would have continued (at the MFM's office) but my funneling actually disappeared.
I agree that something just doesn't sound "right", and I personally would be worried about the changes in my cervix if taken off bedrest and no u/s for a month.

umm that is super weird. I would be skeeved out by the way she did the check too! Also I didnt think they could determine length of the cervix by manually checking... only the dilation? I might be wrong about that. My Dr did say that it is best to have the same person manually checking the dilation/effacement because it is very subjective. (When i was in L&D the Dr. on shift said i was 5cm dilated and my OB said I was 3... seems like i big difference to me!)
If it were me, i think i would stay on bed rest and call Monday. Maybe talk to a nurse and discuss the confusion.. in addition to calling the MFM.
You really dont want to mess around with these babies and you are too early to take risks like that IMHO
